Inspiration: I fell in love with the famous racehorse Ruffian (1972-1975) that was the fastest and most successful racehorse at its time. I built the horse with mostly recycled materials: a frame of recycled wood, a body sculpted with cardboard and tape, mop parts for the mane and tail, and a halter made from a recycled dog leash. The carrot is a favorite treat for my cardboard horse.

Everyone is numerous layers, you can see your own breath, the adrenaline you get minutes before kickoff, the stands roaring, the culture of football itself. I held up my camera as he went up for the shot. I talked to my yearbook teacher and she said it was rare to get a shot of the ball going through the net while they are still hanging on and that’s why I chose it.

I captured this image using a shutter speed of 30 seconds. Inspiration: In my work, I wanted to show Medusa as a powerful and confident woman rather than a monster or a maiden to take pity on. In art, she is often shown as a severed head held by Perseus, looking into the distance with a fearful expression. This time, Perseus sits beside Medusa with that fearful expression, his helm in Medusa’s hand. I also based the clothing and patterns off of Ancient Greek pottery.

Inspiration: This shows a skeleton trying to finger knit with cats who are disrupting his work. He is working on knitted guts which the cats keep trying to eat/play with. This is where the title of the drawing “Osophobia” comes from as that is the fear of cannibalism. For the drawing I tried to mix the cozy elements like grandma wallpaper, and cats with more traditional horror elements like skeletons and gore.

Inspiration: I have thought about painting a shark for a very long time, so I did. I’m really happy with it, and I hope some others will like it too. I had the idea to paint a shark in watercolor because I was painting jellyfish and other types of sea creatures. Then all of a sudden, the thought popped into my head. Inspiration: Every tarot card has two meanings, two sides to the same coin. I wanted to portray that in my designs. Death represents rebirth, the end of the old and the beginning of the new, but also destruction and fear of change. Inspiration: If energy is neither created or destroyed, where does it go? When a body dies, what happens to the soul? Metempsychosis, the idea that a soul travels into a different body after death. Inspiration: “Heart of Glass” is inspired by the song “Heart of Glass” by Blondie. Music is very personal to me and I wanted to use unique mediums that would match the song's feeling and create an interesting texture. CDs look very similar to glass relating to the song title. By Re-purposing these discs I show that music can not only be heard, but seen while capturing the upbeat and peppy essence of the song.

Inspiration: This project is a symbol of childhood. I tried to make the grown textured and realistic as possible. I used relief carving and hand building to create all the detailing. The crown itself was cut out of slab after adding the detailing I then glued on the gems. To go along with the crown I sowed a pillow and made a box. This project was a way for me to experience every little girl's childhood dream.

Inspiration: I was inspired to sculpt these pants because I love 70's fashion and the colorful artwork of that era. The process of building this very very hands-on. I used slabs to build the pants then hand cut out all the patches and attached them. The patches were inspired from symbols that were used a lot in the 70's. The way I glazed it is supposed to bring that era to life.

Inspiration: In this piece I took information from nature. I sculpted a Blue Jay and I spent a lot of time studying references to make sure the proportions and textures were accurate. I combined a variety of glazes together to add life and depth to the piece. This fountain is an example of how I have grown as an artist by taking hand-building techniques I have learned and making this intricate design.

Inspiration: Cutting the vase in half conveys the reality of being a potter, a lot of throwers cut their forms in half to measure growth and improve. I chose the two images of the women inside to communicate healing. The saddened woman shows grief and the other with the butterfly shows growth. Healing is a process that requires both good and bad emotions, which is why they exist inside the vase together.

Inspiration: This piece was inspired by old European architecture. I wanted it to look like a real place while still having the mystique of a fairytale. I like my art to have functionality, this piece is a lantern. I put holes through the bottom of the lid and made the buildings hollow to allow the light from the candle to shine through and out the windows of the buildings like there were real people inside.

Inspiration: This piece was inspired by my childhood backyard that was full of trees and vibrant colored flowers. I used a ribbon carving tool to do the texturing on the background to make the wood effect and used an earth tone for the wood color. I made a coil effect for the vines and the flowers, I used bright glaze colors to make it stand out along with the different tones of green for the vines and the leaves.

The stark black represents the lack of expression this type of person often shows, while the contrasting vibrant rainbow tears is the breakdown that a person who hides their emotions might have. Their held back feelings come flooding out in a river of tears once they’ve been pushed over the limit.

Inspiration: The story of this truck I found very unique getting passed down by generations. Starting as a 1964 GMC, getting rebuilt many times over into what it is now. When I first heard the background of this truck I was inspired to try and recreate it. The truck still runs today for races and is owned by Cole Hubble.

Inspiration: This is a coil vase which is made to illustrate the Spokane River. Different parts of the vase represent different parts of the river including the riverbed, current, and trees along the shoreline. I chose the Spokane River as an inspiration because that I grew up around it, and five generations of my family have lived near it.

Inspiration: This piece represents nature that is often misunderstood. The main focus of this piece is realism to emphasize the organic naturalistic effects. I used relief carving to add depth and variation that pull the viewer's eye toward the dragon. The cool colors and glaze combinations complement the composition and enhance the mysterious vibe of the piece. The yellow eyes pull the whole piece together.

Inspiration: We are constantly trapped by our minds, forgetting to recognize the beauty around us. The cage of Marigolds shows the beauty that surrounds us daily, yet the cage is a symbol of our entrapment. I choose a bird to show freedom, innocence, and show nature.

Inspiration: For my piggy banks my inspiration was smart savings, so I made one for long term and one for short term savings. I’m just beginning to learn the importance of smart spending, and I wanted to combine it with my affinity for mushrooms to remind myself that budgeting is a good thing. These are poisonous mushrooms because they are supposed to remind you not to touch them and spend the money inside.

Inspiration: This piece rethinks the blue-footed booby, an awkward on land and often playful seabird, as a human figure. I was inspired by the vivid blue feet and the almost wide-eyed blank stare. I wanted to explore the connections between a teenager and the natural world. The teenager leaves the playfulness behind to become a more serious young man.

Inspiration: I drew inspiration for this piece from my Grandparents home in Mexico. This piece represents the intricacies of the ocean and the coral reefs I explored throughout my childhood. I focused on prioritizing realism when creating this piece. I used natural looking green, blue, and brown glazes, so it looks like it was just pulled from the ocean.

Inspiration: This is the body of a woman; an object. It is patched, filled with holes, deteriorating. The leaves symbolize the only thing that this object can produce, the only life that is now dead. This sculpture is how society treats women, how we are objectified, and only valued for the children we can produce. But men have taken away our choice now, ripped that life out of us. Our bodies, their choice.

Inspiration: The clay sculpture I created incorporates a decayed skull with a red rose on a brick background. My intention was to represent life and death at the same time. Often in death, we cannot see anything but grief. The rose is that hint of life that still exists in our lives. I chose the word Crane because it is French for skull. French is the language of love adding dimension.

Inspiration: I created this slab built piece with inspiration from my favorite movie Moana. I sculpted the top of my piggy bank as the entrance to the realm of monsters to develop the mouth for the coins to go through. I experimented with relief carving and texture to create more depth and realism. I also used a variety of underglaze combinations and iron oxide to give the box a more aged stone look.

Inspiration: I wanted to express my love for nature and the nostalgia it brings through a simple childhood game. My love for insects is expressed within the multi-color butterflies and the small lady bugs on each leaf. I enjoy creating pieces with intricate details, so my tic tac toe board was a perfect creation to represent my interests.

Inspiration: My cottage was crafted with 3 main hand building techniques, pinch pot, slab, and coil. My goal was to make a cozy mushroom cottage that I would live in if I was a fairy. I made this because I love fantasy, something that I wish could do is live in this magnificent mushroom cottage. Completed with a shiny bright apple red top and a little worm with a bowtie, this cottage is officially perfect.

Inspiration: The film reel was inspired by the idea that life can be viewed similar to a movie and can be continuously revisited. I wanted to push my skills as a ceramic artist by building an intricate functional piece with slab. The focus of the piece was to reflect realism and nostalgia which I created within the illustrations using under glazing methods to bring out the detailed images.

Inspiration: I was inspired to sculpt Tinkerbell’s house to bring my childhood memories to life. I started sculpting the teapot, and added the handle to it by using a slab and I sculpted the spout. I rolled a big piece of clay out and then hollowed it out for the log. I decided to use underglaze to get more detail into it and make it more cartoon-like. I chose to show my love for pottery by making this piece.

Inspiration: For this piece I took inspiration from bug pinning as I think it's a very interesting technique to display bugs. It's a sunset tarantula with a centipede crawling under it using a mix of media to create an earthy nature feel and set a mood of nature's small world.

Inspiration: This is inspired by my childhood overseas, where homes could be seen teetering atop cliffs like this sculpture. I combined elements of realism in the glass water and the sharply carved cliff with elements of familiarity in the house perched on the rock. The tiny red boat hints at a hidden life inside the house. This sculpture is a miniature representation of someone’s life, personified in clay.

Inspiration: “Artificial Life” is how man-made materials and altercations of organic things can create more harm than good. Shown through a house cat, there are things about it that are off, such as the fact that it is an unnatural color, or the fact that it has two tails, or the various pieces of metal or wire on it. Artificial materials can have an effect on nature, even if we don’t immediately realize it.

I felt inspired to recreate the main character while also challenging and improving upon my sculpting skills. This gargoyle is based on the classic Gothic Period pieces, and I carved and sculpted with the intention of making it old and rustic, adding the texture with a sponge and a rough glaze to make it seem like it truly an ancient architecture gargoyle that you found out in nature.
