2. Stradlater is self-absorbed and unsympathetic. He has poor hygiene, yet he always looked presentable; this demonstrates that he focuses on the result rather than how to get there. This is also seen when Holden tries to tell Stradlater some details about Jane, the girl he is going on a date with, which he ignores. Even though Holden despises "phonies," he still treats them with kindness.
3. 3. Holden greatly admires Allie, even though he is his younger brother. He admires him for his intelligence and his kindness. This also demonstrates Holden's sentimentality, as he remembers Allie's baseball mitt and his red hair with astonishing detail. 2. Phoebe is a lot like Allie in the sense that she can be referred to Holden's foil. The intelligence in the Caulfield family demonstrates how his who family is a foil for him. Phoebe is also very understanding and is wise in Holden's eyes.
3. Holden respects his younger sister Phoebe more than most people his age because of her ability to understand. He admires her intelligence (like Allie) and feels like she is the only one he can confide in at a time like this. I don't know why, but it bothered hell out of me. So what I did was, I went over and made her move over on the glider so that I could sit down next to her--I practically sat down in her lap, as a matter of fact. 2. Jane is sensitive and easily hurt by words and actions of other, but she doesn't like to show it. When the man came in and began demanding cigarettes, she didn't cry until he was out of sight. She also needs comforting in times of distress, but also doesn't show it.
3. Holden deeply cares for Jane; other, more confident guys might have taken advantage of her emotional state, but Holden just comforts her and kisses her lightly. 2. Sunny's nervous behavior insinuates that she feels uncomfortable with her profession. This leaves the reader open for questioning her past and what lead her to where she is. Her green dress is also associated with her line of work and the greed of her boss, Maurice; this demonstrates the captivity she experiences nightly. 
3. Holden's experience with Sunny reveals his desperation for affection; he has felt inferior to his family for his entire life and feels no form of comfort from them. When in New York, he seeks the comfort in a prostitute, but finds that he cannot follow through. 2. Maurice is more concerned with money than he is with the well-being of his clients and workers. He ignores Sunny's remarks of leaving him alone and roughs up Holden to get more money out of him. This also shows his greedy character, as he originally told Holden that he would pay $5, when he charged $10. 
3. Because Holden is younger than he tells Maurice and Sunny he is, he fears physical confrontation of them; he tries to defend himself in front of Maurice by calling him a "dirty moron," but this backfires. Even though Holden begins crying in front of Maurice, this reveals his bravery and fearlessness.
