Commercial Dance started to get noticed after the television show 'soul train' and the 1980s films ‘Breakin’, ‘Beat Street’, and ‘Wild Style’ showcased these crews and dance styles in their early stages; therefore, giving hip-hop mainstream exposure.

The dance industry responded
with a commercial, studio-based version of hip-hop—sometimes called "new
style"—and a hip-hop influenced style of jazz dance called
"jazz-funk".

Commercial ‘dance’ is a strong and sexy dance style involving elements mainly
of street and Jazz. Commercial dance refers to the type of dance done by dancers who are hired for fashion and catwalk, artist tours, advertising campaigns, corporate events, TV and film, exhibitions, music videos, and product launches.

Kash Powell's class is on a Wednesday 6.30pm-8.00pm at Studio 68, and Friday at Pineapple Studios 5.00pm-6.00pm. His class is aimed at advanced dancers of any age or gender.

His movement can be somewhat raunchy or explicit, and in the music industry sex sells which makes Kash a popular choreographer. He is known for his 'absolutely full out choreography forcing you to serve your life on the dance floor.'

He has a good ear for popular music which works well with his new age commercial style.

People enjoy Kash's choreographic vocabulary because his dance style is challenging, fresh, energetic, different and innovative.

Commercial dance is a continuously developing style, which means dancers need to keep training themselves in order to be sellable.

However, in order to be sellable, dancers have to think about image a lot and sometimes have to behave in a provocative and sexual manner. This causes concern for the upcoming generation, dictating how they should dress and present themselves.

Futhermore, a typical females attire for class may be leggings, tight fitted trousers, a crop top, shorts or bralet, either showing alot of skin, or clothes tight fitting to the figure.

A male may wear shorts, a low v-neck top, short sleeved tops, showing off their chest, biceps and physique.
