This was achieved through major social change and eventually progress of the mid 1920’s. They valued the american dream of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness despite the struggle to obtain equal access to them. Accoding to Forward to The New Negro: An Interpretation by Alaine Locke, “without ignoring either the fact that there are important interactions between the national and the race life, or that the attitude of America toward the Negro is as important a factor as the attitude of the Negro toward America, we have nevertheless concentrated upon self-expression and the forces and motives of self-determination. So far as he is culturally articulate, we shall let the Negro speak for himself.” This shows that cultural acceptance plays a large role in the access of the American Dream, possibly more than political figures and religious figures.

They believe that these principles were meant to be created, so it is in their power to work to grant access to them for all identities during this time. Foundations of political and social  beliefs have become examples of freedom and civilization to all of mankind. They can attempt to achieve these dreams by expressing their gratitude,  further increasing access to "supreme fulfillment". The idea that they idealize views of American Dreams is expressed in Warren G. Harding's inaugural address when he states, " Liberty—liberty within the law—and civilization are inseparable, and though both were threatened we find them now secure; and there comes to Americans the profound assurance that our representative government is the highest expression and surest guarantee of both." Not only was he strongly religious, he also wanted to transform the democratic party into a force for social reform and innovate  progressive income tax, direct election of Senators ,advocating women's suffrage. The bible impacted the way Bryan viewed the way of life for example when asked a scientific question he doubted all of them and presented others with the way of the bible.”I think I can shorten this testimony. The only purpose Mr. Darrow has is to slur at the Bible, but I will answer his question. I will answer it all at once, and I have no objection in the world, I want the world to know that this man, who does not believe in a God, is trying to use a court in Tennessee--”. This quote illustrates the idea that Bryan plays devils advocate due to identifying the idea that he uses other studies to prove the judge but religion has nothing to do with court. People believe Bryans ideas were foolish. He just wanted believers to side with him.
