         <description><![CDATA[<div>Social difficulties&nbsp;<br>Repetitive behaviors&nbsp;<br>Language impairment&nbsp;<br>Inability to converse with others normally&nbsp;<br>Will not initiate a conversation&nbsp;<br>Ridged and obssesive behavior (clapping, banging the head, biting themselves, flapping hands or arms)&nbsp;- "stimming", use of fidget toys<br>sensitivity to loud noises, bright lights, and touch&nbsp;<br>Doesn't share an interest with others&nbsp;<br>does not make or keep eye contact&nbsp;<br>Doesn't understand emotions&nbsp; - May have fewer steps between emotions - Calm, kinda angry, full anger<br>Can have tantrums or meltdowns, especially at home after working hard all day to manage at school - Spoon theory<br>Very literal, Black and white thinking<br>Must follow routines, thrives with routine<br>Repeats words or phrases&nbsp;<br>Hyperactive, impulsive, and/or inattentive behavior</div><div>Does not like change -&nbsp; May get upset with transitions- give notice of upcoming change in activity and allow time for them to adjust "In five minutes we need to put the toys away for lunch",&nbsp; "In two minutes we need to put on shoes and socks to go outside"<br>Obsessive interests&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

The recent dx criteria has been changed - DSM - This is based on different interventions and help do they need. Low and High functioning. It is lots of different assessments - social, to sensory! &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>when communicating with patients, keep it simple, for understanding purposes.&nbsp;<br><br>educate on implementing a routine<br><br>decreasing external stimuli -&nbsp;<br><br>introducing stimuli that supports their needs<br><br>educate on what a spectrum is<br><br>reassurance and communication with the parents.&nbsp;<br><br>educate that autism is not caused by vaccines. - listen, educate on current evidence, THERP. Communication<br><br>safety - educating on what the home should look like, safety in home, bath and etc...&nbsp;<br><br>support groups - TONS!&nbsp;<br><br>TON of collaborative care -PT, ST, OT, and ...<br><br>behavior modification - takes a little bit longer, and educate on communication to help develop the verbal cues.&nbsp;<br><br>If caregivers are stressed - normal feeling for parents -- due to guilt, changes, and go through the stages of grief with this!&nbsp;<br><br>Assess the parents on depression, caregiver role strain, and etc...&nbsp;<br><br>Support systems for the family, caregivers, and the pt.&nbsp;<br><br>guilt - how do you support - counseling for the family, individual counseling, listen and be an ear and care. use communication tools to dissect what they need.&nbsp;<br><br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>

Discuss these alt treatments and make sure they are safe.&nbsp;<br><br>Gluten free and preservative free diets.&nbsp;<br><br>IEP and 504 (no medical order nec.) - if an actual dx is required for services.
