Culture to me is my traditional way of life (Garifuna). Culture to me is the way i speak to my elders in our native language. The food we eat. Culture brings my people together in time of need, and in to of celebration. culture helps me to understand my way of life and where i came from and where it will take me.

Functionalism [entry 1]

Functionalism is a sociological theory that views society as a complex system of interrelated parts that work together to maintain stability and order. Herbert Spencer (1820–1903) was an English philosopher and biologist who developed this theory, also known as structural-functional theory. for Herbert Spencer, is the notion that institutions within societies have specific functions. For example, courts have the function of punishing violators of laws, while parliaments have the function of producing laws. These function together, producing stability within society.

MY REFLECTION

Functionalism also means to me to see and understand the parts i play in many different organization. Example National Garifuna Council i am the vice president of this organization and functionalism helps me to understand the role i play within this group of people. In school functionalism Show me what my role as a student is. it helps to understand why we have people governing over us, So this theory helps me to understand the role a play in my daily life where ever i am.

Social stratification is the categorization of people into groups based on socioeconomic factors. It's a system of social standing that creates hierarchies within groups, assigning them different levels of privileges.

MY REFLECTION

Social Stratification is something that give humans the power over other humans, because of money. Land, houses, and name and so many more socioeconomic factors. we live in a world where people tend to look at where or what u come from before they actually look at you. for example people with money would be treated better than someone one with out. if you go for a job interview and your sir name is one with not a lot of popularity then some of the time u would get denied. so social stratification show us how we can categories and see which category people belong to, because of what the have and don't have.

In the field of sociology, race and ethnicity are separate ideas that depict the ways individuals are categorized according to their physical traits and cultural backgrounds. The study of race and ethnicity within sociology investigates the social, political, and economic interactions among these groups.

MY REFLECTION

Race and Ethnicity are always confused, but since taking sociology we have understand that race is different from ethnicity. we live in a country where we have different type of people. Many mixing with each other. for example my self. i am mixed with Garifuna, Mestizo, Creole, Mopan Maya, British. all of these ethnicity's are what i am mixed with while each of them give me a distinct feature to my race. understanding people race and ethnicity we understand who they are as a person.

The Economy and Work [ entry 5]

The economy and work are interdependent, forming the foundation of societal progress and individual well-being. Work drives economic activity by producing goods and services, while the economy creates jobs and income, enabling consumption and investment. A strong economy fosters employment opportunities, better wages, and improved living standards, while economic downturns can lead to unemployment and financial hardship. Technological advancements and global shifts continually reshape the nature of work, highlighting the need for adaptability. Together, the economy and work sustain societal growth, promote stability, and enhance quality of life.

MY REFLECTION

In any country a good economy is essential for the people of the country. it allows them to live comfortably and work. the people rely heavily on work for their survival. so when the economy is good we know that the people will work. and humans need to work to have money to satisfice two of our urges 1 eating and 2 having kids and when the economy is working good we don't mind having kids because we know we will be able to mine them. so when an economy works in the favor if its people then we see better results in the county. lower crime rate more growth and happy people.
