The CDF's mission is "Leave No Child Behind," and it focuses on the needs of children living in poverty, children of color, and children with disabilities. This mission aims to give children a healthy, fair, safe, moral, and head start in life, help from caring families and communities, and a smooth transition into adulthood. CDF fights on many fronts affecting poverty (stable homes, health care, nutritious food, etc.) by advocating for policies with Congress at the federal level and at the state level. Furthermore, CDF educates, trains, and equips Americans to become advocates themselves. The Children's Defense Fund has created programs such as Freedom Schools and Beat the Odds. CDF partners with many organizations, one example is the Center for the Study of Social Policy. Donations and foundation, corporate, and government grants fund this nonprofit.

(w/c 136)
https://www.childrensdefense.org/about-cdf/

Save the children provides healthy starts, opportunities to learn, and protection from harm for children in the United States and around the world. They react to crises such as the Venezuela Regional Crisis and the Texas Winter Storm Crisis by meeting needs for survival, amplifying children's voices, and aiding families. They also provide proactive services to help end poverty in the United States, through advocacy, educational, social, and emotional programs. An example is Early Steps to School Success, a home visit and training program that provides parents and children with pre-literacy and language development. Save the Children partners with hundreds of foundations, many corporations, individual philanthropists, and regional councils. Johnson&Johnson is a global corporate sponsor.
(w/c 116)
https://www.savethechildren.org

Josh Boak wrote an article for The Washington Post talking about a summer food program. Back in March of this year, Biden implemented a covid virus relief package that was approved. Biden has decided to take some of the money that was approved for the Covid virus relief package, and use it to feed school children during the summer months. During the three months of summer, many of the children in poverty go hungry. This covid relief money would go to help feed these children by paying for lunches that the children would have received at school, if they were attending school in the summer. Families would be marked as “eligible” to receive this help on a case by case basis. Families that are approved would receive almost $7 per day, per child, which adds up to $375 per child for the entire summer.
Word Count: 144

David Leonhardt wrote an article for The New York Times. He wrote about Britain and how they have successfully cut their child poverty by 50% and he hopes America can do the same. He said that Britain began their fight on child poverty almost twenty-two years ago. Britain decided to make payments to families with children. The article compared it to how older adults collect social security. David wrote that Biden is working on a pandemic relief bill that would do a similar thing. The bill would pay families $3,600 per year for having a five year old child or younger, and/or $3,000 per year for older children. The article predicts that this relief bill would drastically reduce child poverty for blacks and Hispanics.
Word Count: 127
