ESL Collaboration by

Post a word document with:

*General ideas/concepts that you are covering this week.
*Also include any questions you would ask the students and a response they should be able to say.

Mr. Haynes will use this information to plan his ESL classes. He will also post his lessons and we can reinforce those concepts in our classes. And round and round we go!

Overstreet
This week we are using the same language as last week, plus a few more things. For instance, talking about negative exponents, I use the words negative and positive, flipping fractions around, switching places, distributing terms to different terms.

A question I could ask is what happens when I have this negative exponent in the denominator? It means i have to flip the fraction, write the reciprocal of the fraction,

This week, I will be starting a chapter on square roots and cube roots, so they should be able to answer simple sentences like:

what is the square root of 121? The square root of 121 is 11. 121 is a perfect square.

They should know simpler stuff like: is 3 a factor of 729? and then moving into prime factorization, finding all factors of a number and looking for roots. They should also know some knowledge about cube roots. This number is the cube root of this number.

Is this number a perfect cube of this number?

No, that is not a perfect cube of that number. “Why not?” Because the cube root of this number is a decimal.

Some questions I might ask are “is 6 a factor of 24?” What do we multiply together to get this number? How many times do we need to multiply this to get this number?

Chapter 4 in the future. – laws on page 179, need to know words like product and quotient, powers, and use them when describing complicated laws.

Pages 157, 168, 175, 179, 191 “main idea” pages. Check the examples for some key words as well.
