The apple was given to the most fairest of them all. The prince of Troy named Paris, had to decide who deserved the golden apple. He then chose aprhodite. Aprohdite told paris he can have the most beautiful woman in the world to himself. Since paris took Helen anyways he started or waged a war against all the Greeks.

Ulysses and his crew arrived to the island and started to break into people's home. Savage from the previous war,Ulysses' men want to attack. Ulysses does not want to risk spoiling their good luck by stopping. Eurylochus convinces Ulysses that the village is a gift from the gods, and Ulysses concedes. At Ulysses' command, the Hellenes land and the townspeople, the Ciconians, flee. Ulysses commands his men to take no slaves. The Hellenes sacrifice ten bulls to the gods. They feast and loot the village. The Ciconians gather in the hills and attack the Hellenes. The sentries warn the crew, causing the Hellenes to retreat to their ships. Ulysses shoots the Ciconian's horses to disable them from following, but six Hellenes from each ship are killed.

So, Ulysses sends a second man up. Again, the man does not return. After sending three men up with none of them coming down, Ulysses decides that he needs to go up for himself. After going halfway up, Ulysses discovers that what he is climbing up is not a tree, but actually a large giant. When he and the crew try and run back the shore, the large giants chase Ulysses and crush two ships, killing two thirds of Ulysses' men. This shows that Ulysses didn't take careful precautions and wasn't aware of the giant. In result he lost two thirds of his men and lost two ships.

Character Trait: In this chapter, Eurylochus revealed how selfish, ungrateful, and disloyal he is because it was his idea at the start to eat the cattle even when Ulysses warned them not to. His excuse was that if they died at least they would have one last sufficient meal. Then on top of everything he lied to Ulysses and tricked him by saying that they had eaten stags and not cattle. This quickly emphasizes how disloyal he is because he didn't follow what Ulysses told him and because of that he caused all the men their lives. He is ungrateful because Ulysses has done everything to make sure the men also get home safely and he has been through so much chaos, but he still went behind his back and betrayed him.
