I state that African Americans were not free at all!! Because even after the civil war most of them still got treated harshly, some died others got beat and somehow they were actually supposed to be free but they weren’t and that’s the saddest part because they never did anything wrong all they wanted was a normal life and to be treated like a normal person but at the end it never was how they wanted it to be it was how a white person wanted it to be.

  • I met four white men about six miles south of town. One of them asked me  who I belonged to. I told him no one. So him and two others struck me with  a stick and told me they were going to kill me and every other Negro who  told them that they did not belong to anyone.
  • . I saw over twelve colored men and women, beat, shot and  hung between there and Shreveport.

And had to deal with a dishonest president name Ulysses S. Grant that i think no one liked.
