         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>DEADLINE: APRIL 10th</strong><br><br>The Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) offers enrollment in UC Berkeley's Summer Sessions for EAOP students going into the twelfth grade.&nbsp; In addition to being enrolled in an actual UC Berkeley course, students are placed in a special EAOP discussion session and provided with a teaching assistant who guides them through the course material during the program. Summer Sessions courses are extremely rigorous, as they are fifteen-week classes compressed into six weeks.&nbsp; Courses are taught by UC Berkeley professors and attended by UC undergraduates.&nbsp; There are three courses available for EAOP UC Berkeley Summer Sessions.&nbsp; Students are able to rank order their preferences and we try our best to place them in their first or second choice.&nbsp; Past courses have included Environmental Earth Sciences, Ethnic Studies, and Greek &amp; Roman Mythology.&nbsp; Credit earned in a UC Berkeley Summer Sessions course appears on a standard UC Berkeley transcript and is transferable to many colleges and universities.<br><br>EAOP UC Berkeley Summer Sessions kicks off with a student and family orientation in June.&nbsp; Classes take place from July to August.&nbsp; Course days and times vary depending on what class students are enrolled in, with classes being held between two and four days a week.&nbsp; All classes take place on the UC Berkeley campus.<br><br>To be considered for EAOP UC Berkeley Summer Sessions, students must be enrolled in EAOP, be going into their senior year the following fall, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 (weighted) in their A-G coursework.&nbsp; The application will be made available to students in March.&nbsp; Students must complete the application in its entirety to be considered for admission to Summer Sessions.          <title>EAOP Pre-College Academy for 9th and 10th-grade students</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>DEADLINE: APRIL 10th</strong><br><br>The Pre-College Academy (PCA) is a six-week college preparatory summer program hosted by EAOP at the University of California, Berkeley.&nbsp; For 30 years PCA has provided intensive preparation for EAOP students enrolled in partner schools throughout the Bay Area.&nbsp; PCA prepares students for their academic and professional futures by providing them with the opportunity to share in the University of California's tradition of educational excellence and diversity.&nbsp; PCA prepares students for success in the following academic year, including preparation for classes that meet the University of California's and California State University's A-G subject requirements.<br><br>PCA offers students rigorous coursework, college-level expectations and a chance to join a community of college bound scholars.&nbsp; Participants in the program take two classes, one in a theme-based writing course and a second course in math (Geometry, Advanced Algebra, Pre-Calculus).&nbsp; Recent writing course titles include<em> Critical Media Literacy</em>;<em> Living in the Shadows: Race, Gender &amp; Identity Politics in the United States</em>; <em>Zombie Apocalypse: A Post-Apocalyptic Study of Modern America</em>.&nbsp; Students are enrolled in the math level that will be taking in their schools the following fall.<br><br>PCA can accommodate a limited number of students. The selection process is designed to select a group of highly qualified and engaged students. For acceptance, students must demonstrate academic qualifications and/or participation in EAOP activities during the regular school year. Students must have a minimum 2.50 GPA in their academic coursework. They must also attend an EAOP partner school.<br><br>PCA takes place between the middle of June and the end of July every year. Students take classes four days a week, Monday through Thursday. All PCA program activities take place on the UC Berkeley campus.<br><br></div><div>Students do not pay for program fees. Students are required to pay for transportation, but BART and AC Transit subsidies are available participants who qualify for financial assistance. Lunch is not provided to students.<br><br>In addition to coursework, PCA students participate in co-curricular activities designed to build community amongst the students, faculty and staff.&nbsp; Recent activities have included the PCA Amazing Race (campus scavenger hunt), PCA Talent Show, and the PCA Extravanganza (outdoor festival with games and food).<br><br></div><div>Second year PCA students also have the option to enroll in the Leadership Academy.&nbsp; This group of students meet twice a week during PCA to explore what it means to be a leader and how to translate their leadership skills into action. Leadership Academy students also go on an overnight camping trip one weekend during PCA.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

The program serves rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors in high school.
