The color is said to have come from dying the bottoms black. 
"Blackfoot" is more commonly used in Canada, and "Blackfeet" is more commonly used in the United States.

They lived freely on the land while following the bison across the plains to hunting grounds. Blackfoot people lived in camps sheltering in tipis, because they constantly moved. The Blackfoot people were also known for being fierce warriors. 

During the summer, groups would converge to hunt bison, and celebrate with feasts and dances. The highest Blackfoot ceremony the Sun Dance is held every summer. This is a ceremony of prayer, sacrifice and renewal. It last a day and half where hundreds og songs are sung, each one different from the others.

They do not perform it so well as white men would; they are much more careless in their handling of tools, wagons, mowing-machines, or other implements, but they are learning all the time, even if their progress is slow.
