2021 FALL PUBH 410 COALTION BUILDING by Jennifer Ponce

INSTRUCTIONS
Having trusting, strong relationships between your coalition members is one of the most important things for coalition success (Butterfoss, 2007). Strong relationships help people be more willing to work with each other, helps the coalition get through conflict, and makes sure that people feel comfortable sharing new ideas or to honestly give their opinion. Write post about one strong professional relationship you have and what makes it so strong. Be sure respond to at least two of your colleagues.

A strong professional relationship I have is with another one of my daytime bartenders. We have personalities that easily mesh with one another and are always willing to help each other out and keep each other in the loop about things at work. This professional relationship even lapses into our personal lives because we hang out outside of work and share what is going on in our lives.

After being in the honor society for more than a year, being on the board has been a blessing. Its makes it so strong since it provides this opportunity to communicate and interact with professional advisors and staff. As the Community Service Chair & Historian, I have the authority to create a difference in the community and communicate with different organizations on and off campus.

A strong professional relationship I have is with one of my coworkers at the clinic I work at. Both of us shared many things in common when it comes to work and hobbies outside work. The main thing that makes this relationship strong is that we have great communication and we always help each other to provide the best quality of care to patients. This professional relationship has created a really comfortable environment where we can talk about our private lives and give advice to each other.

A strong professional relationship I have is with my volunteer coordinator at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital. Even though he is our coordinator, he is very easy to talk to and always open to new suggestions and ideas. I have been volunteering there for over a year now, and he has been so welcoming to new people, while consulting me for advice from a different point of view in order to gain more perspective into the experience of the volunteers themselves. I have always felt comfortable around him and never felt like I had to pretend to be someone else.

One strong professional relationship I have is with one of my co-workers at Starbucks. We worked together in a café that lacked a drive-through and was in a non-busy part of town. So they were able to take my training slow, and it helped me gain a lot of confidence working. Due to the store not being busy, we had a lot of free time to talk and get to know one another. When our store closed down in March of 2020, we both transferred to a busier Starbucks nearby. It was nice because our shifts were usually together, so we were able to carpool often.

I see her as a big sister who is always giving advice to me when it comes to career, relationships, friendships, and other topics that come into our conversation. What helps continue to build our relationship is knowing when to be professional, but also building our relationship/friendship outside of work. It has helped us work better together professionally!

A strong professional relationship I have is with one of the managers where I work at. He is easily one of the best persons, someone could meet. He has the energy to make everyone around him excited about work. He is always greeting everyone with a smile and asking how we are. He is someone who genuinely cares for his employees and makes sure we are always comfortable and taking care of ourselves before anything. I can talk to him about anything and he will always give me great advice, whether it is work or out-of-work issues. Although his position is higher, he treats everyone with respect and celebrates everyone's success. He has become one of my role models and inspires me to be a better person in life.

Creating strong and trustworthy relationships is extremely important. According to our textbook, through coalitions individuals and organizations may become involved in new, broader issues without being solely responsible for them. One strong professional relationship that I would like to share is with my director from the organization that I am involved in. My director is so sweet and understandable. I appreciate how I can approach her knowing that she will listen to me. She always reminds me that I am free to stay home and get rest if I feel stressed with school. The times that I do choose to stay home, she sends me a message asking if I am doing well. A strong relationship creates the environment in which we work in more joyful.

We get along very easily and she is always there for me now at work and outside of work. Our personalities are very alike. The main thing that makes our relationship strong is our communication. We also hang out outside of work and she has become one of my best friends!

A strong professional relationship I have is with my manager at work. We both have similar ideals and values which is what makes it easy for us to communicate. The effective communication ensures that I have the schedule I need and that he knows what part of the store needs more attention. Additionally, it makes my shifts more bearable and enjoyable knowing that my manager is not a control freak. The morale is definitely a lot better than my previous jobs because he has a strong relationship with all my coworkers.

One strong professional relationship I have is with one of my coworkers at the store I work at. She has been working their longer than me and has more experience, so I respect her a lot. I am second in line with experience so she also respects me. We both are passionate about helping our customers, but we also know when to stop putting up with certain situations. Many customers can be hostile and rude and we both know exactly what pushes each others buttons. We make sure we are there to help out and step in when needed. We both work very hard and very frequently, so we understand when the other needs a break. We help each other out, ask each other questions, and continue to expand our knowledge every day. Because of our great relationship at work, we have become friends in our everyday lives too. By respecting each other, helping each other, and constantly learning from each other, we have created a great professional relationship.

She was first a receptionist for 3 years and then got promoted to be a manager, who is in charge of running the salon. My manager is the most humble, passionate person I have ever met. There has never once been a time where I questioned her authority. She always makes me feel like a valuable member of the team, as she acknowledges all of my input and trusts me with important responsibilities. Her communication skills are impeccable, as she always lets me know of issues I need to deal with or any other important information. Even though I am the youngest employee, she treats me with maturity and respect. Her open mind and acceptance of new ideas allows us to have a strong relationship, as we both want to see each other succeed.

One strong professional relationship I have is with the brothers of the Sigma Nu Fraternity at CSUF. I am currently the scholarship chairman, philanthropy chairman, and risk reduction chairman. After being in the Sigma Nu Fraternity for a year, I have had the privilege of making life-long friendships with some of the members on my fraternity. We have a group chat that we communicate on. We hang out together, play video games together, study together, and serve our communities together. I am surrounded by like-minded individuals who have similar goals like mine and that is powerful because you are who you hang out with. It is important to choose the crowd that we work with wisely or else people can negatively influence us or harm us in a variety of ways. This fraternity welcomed me with open arms and we literally talk about whatever we want. I never feel like I am being judged and this fraternity offers a safe space for all brothers regardless of race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc. We will hear people out and allow everyone to have a voice.

A strong professional relationship I have is with my manager at work. This manager and I worked at this one location before I got moved and he moved to a different location at Disneyland. I just like how we share the same work ethic, which made him trust me. In my end, it was my responsibility to not abuse the trust and actually do what I am supposed to be doing, showing up on time to work, and having frequent communications if I ever can't make it to my shift. It felt great to work with someone higher than my position but there is no awkward tension and I did not feel that they are "higher." It kind of gives that egalitarian environment where we respect each other and work as a team, rather than being watched closely by a dictator per se.

A strong professional relationship I have is with my group mates from my PUBH 475 class. I have barely met the majority of them this semester and I can tell that we all share the same work ethic and understanding of what it takes to get the job done. We are well aware of our strengths and weaknesses and are willing to help anybody who may be struggling. For our project, we are all free to share our opinions or ideas for completing each portion which makes it easier to work together. Overall, we all trust each other are are willing to help wherever and whenever we can so there is no hierarchy or designated roles. Furthermore, we have created a bond that will likely last past our time in that particular class.

One strong professional relationship I have is with my coworkers. Our ice cream shop is located in Downtown Disney which makes our shop one of the busiest in the company. The store has only been open for 3 years and many of my coworkers have known each other for that long and some even longer. This means we are all comfortable with each other and have formed really close friendships with one another. This being said, we all share mutual respect for each other and has allowed us to be able to communicate and work efficiently during our busy hours. Moreover, many of us have close relationships with our managers and shift leads who understand our personal issues and do everything they can to check in on us and help us in anyway they can. Without this strong relationship, our work environment would not be as welcoming and organized as it is now.

She try's her best to give me those opportunities. I feel like she is more willing because she sees that i'm productive in my job. We also have good communication skills.

A strong professional relationship that I have is at the VA Loma Linda Hospital. I work as a medical support assistant and recently I was moved from the dental clinic to the preventive medicine clinic. The clinic was a little chaotic because the previous medical support assistants that worked there made so many errors, so immediately I had a lot of fixing to do. Taking that initiative to fix things up without being told instantly created a strong bond between the nurses, providers, and myself. The fact that I stay proactive, get work handled right away, respond to the rest of the staff quickly, check the phone messages on my own, and ask questions is a huge reason as to why the nurses took a liking to me. After seeing the hard work I put in and how helpful they could be, if created this strong professional work relationship between everyone. We all know that we can count on each other to get the job done right and if worst case scenario someone cannot come to work, we have a plan b ready. On top of that, everyone in the clinic is not afraid to ask questions which demonstrates how everyone ensures that all members of the team feel heard and that their concerns do matter. Overall, I have a great team and work environment in that clinic I am at

A strong professional relationship that I have is with my mentor. My goal is to get into graduate school once I graduate from CSUF and they have helped me prepare to apply and so on. They have already been through the process which makes it a lot easier for me to pick their brain and see what it is that I need to do in order to be just as successful as them. I think that it is such an amazing experience because everyone is so unique and so of course my process is different than theirs but we still manage to be a team and always find a solution to my problems and work together to make things work. My mentor is always there for me and always has my back and it has developed into a great friendship as well. It is such a cool way to connect with someone and for them to understand what I am going through is really nice to have. We make a great team and it truly is really fun to work together. Our communication is constant and I am always keeping them in the loop. It is one of the most important relationships that I have and I am very grateful for it.

A strong professional relationship that I have is with my current boss. I work as a program assistant on campus for the program Jumpstart and from the first week or two that I began working there I felt very comfortable in my environment. My boss is very sweet and thoughtful and has emphasized the importance of having my own creative space as I work. The environment that she has built made me feel comfortable on speaking out on my own thoughts and ideas and allowed me to provide that same feeling to the members of the program. Our relationship with one another portrays one that is collaborative, respectful and thoughtful of one another. My boss and I found that we share the same thought processes on things and have learned to communicate effectively with one another and build both our professional and personal relationship. Her and I both share the same passion with working with children and students in creating an impact in their lives. Through these aspects of my boss and the work environment that she has built, it makes coming into work enjoyable.

A strong, professional relationship I have recently come across is with my therapist. I had been seeking a therapist for a while before I finally found one that I actually enjoy talking to. She has become not only my therapist, but also my friend. It's always nice to talk to her. Her and I have a lot more in common that I thought. At first, I always thought one couldn't form a friendship with their therapist but it has been a great experience so far. We exchange book recommendations and other resources among one another.

I do observation hours with him and I ask him questions all the time. What makes this relationship so strong is that he makes me feel welcomed and is genuinely happy to answer all my questions. He understands that I'm still learning and doesn't make me feel inferior at all. He doesn't have to, but he pulls out diagrams and textbooks to show me the different muscles we are strengthening to help the patient recover. He allows me to handle the patient's chart, administer the tens unit, and put ice on the patient, all by myself. Even when I make mistakes, he professionally explains the correct way to do the exercise and why. We have become so close that we talk about our lives and share our concerns for future. He gives great advice and makes me happy to come in for my internship. He is also understanding when it comes to my life outside of my internship because he allows me to leave early when I have an early soccer game. I couldn't have chosen a better internship!

One solid professional relationship that I have is with my coworkers at my work at Target. I can resolve issues on my own and assist others with anything. As a team, we all get along working together, promoting a positive and healthy environment towards providing excellent service for the guests. The primary reason why we all get along is that not only are we around the same age, but we trust each other from working together for years. Long-term relationships build rapport towards trust. When we are all together working at the same time, the flow goes by faster and collaborative. Whenever conflict arises, it is immediately resolved because everyone provides assistance and advice.
Moreover, the leaders make it a comfortable environment for us to ask for help when needed. They also reflectively listen to our suggestions for improvements in the store to run more efficiently. Everyone is comfortable with sharing their ideas and providing positive feedback. By providing feedback to other coworkers, it allows for improvement. As well as empowering others to do good in their work helps coworkers stay motivated throughout their shift. Nonverbal communication also goes a long way to provide others' room to read the environment. For example, if one senses that their coworker is uncomfortable, they might help by assisting them. Ultimately, an inclusive and diverse culture is what consists of the coworkers that I can work with, and everyone is always eager to help one another.

A strong professional relationship I have is with my old boss. I worked at the job for 4 years and throughout that time I was given many roles. In taking on many different jobs I was able to show my boss that I was capable of handling many different situations. Often, when I would be the lead on shift he would use those days as his days off because he knew I could handle the business while he was away. Even after I quit he let me know that if I ever needed a job that they would take me back. He was also very supportive and happy that I found a higher-paying job somewhere else. I think one of the things that made our professional relationship strong was that even when things did go wrong I would still keep an open line of communication. That way he knows what's going on and is able to offer support if needed. Communication is the key factor in any and every type of relationship.
