  • A bachelors degree in social work is a common requirement although some do accept degrees in related fields; it also depends on they type of social worker. 
  • Some clinical social workers must have a masters degree and two years of supervised work experience in a clinical facility and after two years they must complete an exam for a license.
  • Most states require a license for nonclinical social workers but it depends on the state.
  • In order to be a clinical social worker all states require a license; though some have exceptions for government clinical social workers.
