In the fort, we were in a room that was used for one full family - parents and siblings. Women were expected to cook and clean. Constance explained to us that if you knew how to make popcorn and not burn it, you would find a man. She also explained that women were really hard workers. The eldest daughters also had a big role. It was a building that was used to monitor anything or anyone that was trying to invade San Francisco, and most importantly, California. Basically, it was used to protect California. People thought that the location was perfect because they can monitor it effectively and make sure California is safe. Right now, it is right under Golden Gate Bridge. The bulilding itself has 3 corners that faces out to the bay and 1 corner that doesn’t, which is where the soldiers live. The picture below is one of the canons. They had to have multiple canons because they weren’t really that accurate so if they had a lot, they would be kind of close to hit the target. In the three corners, there are windows where canons used to be. You can tell because there are “scars” on the floor in a circular shape because they had to move and angle it all the time.
