Week 1- Pre Production, Immortalis Somnum(Location Manager)

Monday-
This was the first day of pre production for my groups Video Project 'Immortalis Somnum'. For the first day of pre production My Main task was to be briefed by my Director and Producer on what was required from My role. My contribution as a whole towards this production is securing safe and workable environment for my production group. I began to come up with possible idea's for locations we would need just so the crew new what spaces we could be tasked with ahead. I managed to book the Salford Quays TV news Room for our reporter scene. I felt the first day was a good productive day as me along with my Locations assistant managed to already secure one of our locations.

Tuesday-
Today entailed with me and my location assistant(Sophie) continuing to look for potential locations we had wrote up. After contacting Neil Salmon for booking the Salford Quays TV news Studio, the focus when then switched to securing our main location for filming which is a Theatre. I decided to pursue booking the Robert Powell Theatre at Salford university and after speaking with my Director and Producer, They were happy with this location so I decided to begin the process of booking out this theatre. Myself and my Location assistant Chose this space due to its slight run down/old vintage look which suits the apocalyptic theme of our production.Another factor is that it's local for the cast and crew so we can save on travel expensive and furthermore, The chosen location for our theatre has no change for hire so we won't have to dip into production which is a massive benefit towards our filming process. We also started to try and Locate some 'theatre looking bar area's' for our greenroom location. We decided we wanted to push the limit's with locations for our greenroom so we started to contact Theatres around Manchester such as the Royal Exchange and the Palace theatre. For the rest of this day whilst we waited on responses from certain Venue's, we looked at sorting out our bedroom locations as we have three different bedroom scene's within the course of the story. We Identified all three different Rooms that we could potentially use for the Characters rooms. Before the end of today Managed to speak with fellow cast/crew member George Moore about using his room for the character of Casey as the interior of his room matched the character due to bright colour of George's room and also the Gamer style theme of the room furthermore, All We need to do is complete and hand in a permission slip to George's accommodation prior to filming in his room and that's Casey's room all confirmed for filming. Overall today has been a productive day as we have continued identifying more locations and also booking them as well.

Wednesday-
Today Me and Sophie Started filling in risk assessment's for the places we had already confirmed such as the Theatre, Salford Keys TV studio and the bedroom's. For Harpers's room we decided we are going to use Seb's room due to saving spending budget and also because the size of his room is a good space to film Harper's bedroom scene due to there being a few people required for that scene. We also agree'd to shoot the exterior shot and Casey's and Morgan's scene on Seb's street due to being there for Harper's Bedroom scene anyway. This means Putting two different sections on one day to make it easier to fit it into schedule and also reserve time for looking for more difficult locations. Later in the day I had responses back from from the Royal Exchange and also the Palace theatre about the possibility of filming in their buildings. Unfortunately the places were fully booked up but it was a good experience indulging in contact with venue's of such structure and professionalism. To finish off the Day I looked at alternatives for our greenroom scene and Managed to find a nice space at the Manchester hall. I sent an email enquiring about the space so I finished todays work with waiting on a response from the Manchester hall.

Thursday-
Today started off with me checking my email's to see if the Manchester hall had replied about the possibility of filming in their space. Unfortunately the price they quoted us for filming in their building was way out of our productions budget so we had no choice but to look elsewhere. We managed to arrange booking out The New Adelphi TV Acting studio to use for Finns bedroom nightmare. This location is free of charge and also is a great space for the long shot that is being filmed for that scene.Along with the producer and The cinematographer, we were able to get a demonstration off the technician on how they can alter the set to suit the theme of the story. After seeing this we all agreed this location would work and we got it booked to use for Finns nightmare scene. Me and Sophie then turned our attention to two locations that have not been approached yet. We as a production want to use the old Adelphi Car park for the protest scene and also the New Adelphi Roof next to rehearsal room 2 for a rooftop scene. We risk assessed for these locations and then I went and gave these to building Manager Marcus Young so he could see our risk assessment's and confirm what date and hours we'd like for filming. Today left us with confirming almost all our locations with only the greenroom to really look for.

Friday-
Today is the last day of pre production, we are only waiting on a response from Marcus Young. We managed to find an alternative for our greenroom in a building called Hemsley house which is just across the road from campus. I contacted the place for availability and we manage to go for a meeting that day to try and secure the 'walker suite'. Thankfully me managed to book it and for cheaper than their usual rate as well which we were very pleased and grateful about. Today left us with more or less having all our locations booked, however we are just waiting to still hear back from Marcus about the car park and roof location to confirm Security are fine with us filming at those chosen places.

Monday-
Today we started shooting in Robert Powell Theatre. I arrived at Location earlier to make sure there were no complications with getting into the theatre space and when the rest of the cast and crew arrived I helped them move filming equipment and props into the theatre. I also did the odd running Job for the such as doing time checks so we could utilise to time in the space well. I also continued to communicate with Marcus Young about booking the Old Adelphi Car park for our protest Scene. I had not received any information regarding the booking so I just went to check with him that he'd received our request to film in the car park. After filming, Me and My location assistant went to Look at the Walker suite at Hemsley House which is where we'll be using for our greenroom scene. We went to take some pictures, talk the owner through the process of what we will be filming so there is no misunderstanding and also get a feel for what space we have so we can discuss with the director.

Tuesday-
Today I helped move the equipment around campus to the different locations we filmed at such George's Flat and Also the New Adelphi TV acting studio. I also sat finishing off Location Release forms for all our locations, just so we can get them signed off after our various shoot days. Once I had finished writing some of the Location release forms I then handed them to the appropriate people so we were able to film in those locations, an example is when I handed one it to the Delaney office which then gained us access to George's Flat.

Wednesday-
Today I again spoke to Marcus about booking the Old Adelphi Car park as I Needed to try and speed up the process of getting this location booked before Fridays shoot. It was also important for me to know so I know whether I will have to look elsewhere for another location for the protest scene. I was given confirmation that Marcus was happy for us to film there but we had to wait on the security over at Old Adelphi to pass it as well in addition, I was able to fully confirm the New Adelphi roof for filming on Friday afternoon. During Wednesday Afternoon I just helped out moving Equipment with the crew so they were ready to set up for filming quicker.

Thursday-
Today we were filming at our 'Greenroom' location which was Hemsley House. I arrived 30 mins prior to call time just to make sure there was no complication's with accessing the venue. When the Cast arrIved I helped them move equipment into the room we were filming in at then I headed back over to Adelphi to gain an update from Marcus on Whether security have confirmed it was okay to film at Old Adelphi on Friday Morning. Marcus had been in contact with security and they had passed for us to film and I had received the conformation Email to show my producer.

Friday-
Today we began Filming At Old Adelphi Car park. I arrived and met Marcus with the rest of the crew so he could give us access to the Location. For the Protest scene I stepped in to be an Extra along with a few crew members to give more of an element for Will during his scene. I also helped design some of the signs that were used during this scene. During the Afternoon we were filming on the Adelphi roof terrace. Despite the weather the crew still went ahead with filming but after discussing with my Director and Producer, we are planning to rebook the space out at the same time next week for a reshoot.

Monday-
On Monday we were in the Robert Powell Theatre 10-5. I again a little early to make sure there were no complications with getting into the space. I helped moving some of the filming equipment into the theatre space. I also Helped out with some of the continuity logging whilst various crew members were required elsewhere. Another Job I was tasked with was making sure checking over the risk assessment for the reshoot for the new Adelphi roof on Thursday. I printed the risk assessment off and left the risk assessment on Marcus Young's desk for him to sign off for us furthermore, I sent him a follow up email just to notify him of the risk assessment I had left with him.

Tuesday-
Today we were filming the exterior and street scenes for Casey's and Morgans scene and the location I had chosen for the shoot was on Croft street in Manchester. The weather on the day was raining but it was still safe to shoot in the location and it also added to the feel of the scene. I Helped out on set with things such as going back to campus to pick up camera covers that we had accidentally left behind and also making sure lighting equipment were covered at all times In addition, I made sure the actors had access to umbrellas to keep themselves dry and also for continuity purposes as well.

Wednesday-
Today we were filming over at Media City in the Salford Quays TV newsroom room for the news report scene. I arrived at location early and met our technician Ben who gave us access to the room and gave us a Health and Safety induction. After shoot I then helped pack and move equipment back to the car ready for our afternoon Shoot. Our afternoon shoot took place back in the Robert Powell Theatre. I helped move equipment into the space and during filming, I helped hold the stage wing curtains shut so that the camera could not see into the theatre wings.

Thursday-
Today I just made a follow up to Marcus Young conforming that he had received the risk assessment that I had sent him for the reshoot on the New Adelphi roof. Marcus had got back to me saying the risk assessment was fine and the shoot was all cleared for today in addition, I then passed this information on to my producer. The production crew just made sure to keep their eye on the weather and the wind so that it did not affect the shoot and also cause risk to the equipment and the crew however, this was all presented within the risk assessment so our production team and actors were well aware of this.

Thursday was the last day of filming and I have massively enjoyed working on this production. The role of Location Manager was challenging role but an enjoyable one at that.
