Throughout the preseason I worked on developing my skills after a 2 year break from softball. I worked lots on my pitching skills, but decided that in-season I would play in the outfield as it gave me a better chance at making the A Team. I improved my batting a lot through the practices in terms of my ability to hit further. However, there is still lots of room for improvement in my consistency for base hits. In terms of glove work I think I have the necessary set of skills to throw and catch consistently, but just need to be able to apply these skills in a game. I am excited to see what the season brings and how I will be able to transfer my skills into real matches.

We were given some options of where we could travel to around East Asia; The activities ranged from wellness to cultural experiences and adventures. We knew we wanted to do something active and Langkawi seemed the perfect choice as it was close to Singapore and had a range of activities. We were excited to do a new thing every day—Kayaking, Biking, and Hiking.

How did we plan?

We assigned each person a role. I was in charge of being the media coordinator, so I was less involved in the planning stage and more in capturing the action on-site. However, I had to fill out forms with my information and complete all the required declarations to allow the trip to proceed. We had to collaborate, because if one person didn't do their job then the whole trip would be jeopardized. Here was our planning doc

Trip Reflection.

I learned a lot about the UWC mission competency self and community well-being. On the third day, I fell off my bike and the chain sliced my leg. But as we were only halfway through our journey, I had to keep riding for the rest of the day. When we arrived back, my leg had still not stopped bleeding, so I had to travel to the mainland and get stitches. I was glad that there were people around me to provide support, creating a sense of connection and belonging as they supported me throughout the process—helping to call the international SOS line, going with me to the mainland, getting the stitches, and coming back. While not the ideal way to end the trip, it was nonetheless a critical experience for me. The reason I fell was nearing the end of a slope, I wanted to get some footage as I was media coordinator. I had to decided to take a calculated that ended with me falling as I lost my balance—it taught me that it's better to be safe than sorry. Despite this, the biking was still the highlight of the trip for me, and an even more important reminder of resilience and how to deal with discomfort or pain.
