President Snow demonstrates the Avenger archetype in "Catching Fire" when he sends the previous victors back to the arena for the 7th annual Hunger Games to fight for their lives again. He wants to kill Katniss after she tested the power of the capital by threatening to eat poisonous berries when she was in the hunger games for the first time.

"There were many women at that time, upon whom the time laid a dreadfully disfiguring hand; but, there was not one among them more to be dreaded than this ruthless woman, now taking her way along the streets ... imbued from her childhood with a brooding sense of wrong, and an inveterate hatred of a class, opportunity had developed her into a tigress. She was absolutely without pity." (Dickens 365).

In this television show, Blair Waldorf is always plotting how she can get revenge on people who cross her. Blair always makes sure that people get what she thinks they deserve if they bother her, as demonstrated when she spread nasty rumors about her teacher who did not give her an "A".

In this story Achilles vows to kill Hector after Hector brutally murdered his best friend Patroclus. Even after Achilles kills Hector he tortures Hector's body in order to get the revenge he so badly desired.

In Greek Mythology the Erinyes were the deities of revenge. They punished mortals for crimes in belief that they were punishing those who were wrong to bring justice to society. This was shown in the story Medea when Jason breaks a promise, so the Erinyes kill his children.

The Avenger archetype is an ever present, non-changing archetype that has been represented in the literature and film of our society throughout history; it has shown that revenge, a desire that everyone can relate to, is used for both personal gains as well as for means of changing society when there is a want to right a perceived wrong.
