The Salem Witch Trails of 1652 was due to a series of event that would cause a perfect storm. Mainly the events, which started in the kitchen of Rev. Samuel Paris, were rooted in hysteria and fear rather than any true tangible evidence. Young girls and Tituba, a slave from Barbados, would accuse women of being witches that possessed and tormented them. The scene that would unfold in court were almost laughable with the girls putting on a show of many tantrums, faints, screams, and other childish behavior. This behavior was used as evidence to convict hundreds of innocent men and women. Other methods of finding witches were looking for a witch's teat or dunking the accused in water to see if the devil would save them from drowning or not. Any "method" of witch hunting the god fearing puritans used would also result in a victim that would result in the murder of 24 innocent women.
