At a young age, I was extremely scared of swimming. I would never try it unless I had ground right below me, and I wouldn't let my dad teach me. But I soon came to the realization that it'd be kinda sad if I just never had the courage to try it. I figured that whenever we'd go to a pool party, I'd always be the only one standing at the shallow side. Embarrassing. So no matter how terrified I was letting my parents show me, I didn't back out, and now here I am. I learned one small skill that not a lot of people had trouble with. But it was a good achievement for me.

How does this relate to the theme?

This example relates to the theme because it explains how even though I was horribly scared of drowning due to lack of swimming, I had the courage to learn it.

My dad has been playing baseball for the longest time, and he's been telling me about all the benefits I get from it, and I was so excited to start playing it when I was still so young, but I was never put in a team, and all I've ever done was just watch my dad's games. Eventually I got bored of it, because I never really participated. But I didn't want to stop there. I knew that I should be playing a sport, and I really wanted to, but baseball just didn't feel like it suited me. I've already tried soccer, too, and I wasn't interested. Football? Now that's something new. Before I went to high school, I decided to try out for the Rattlers football team. I knew nothing about it. Even now, I'm confused with all the positions and game-play, and I know that my body is too light and skinny to even get past 30 yards without getting absolutely destroyed, but I will do whatever I can to fix that. Right now, I'm a freshman, but I can see myself standing on that field with all eyes on me in my senior year. This is my biggest goal yet.

How does this relate to the theme?

This example shows how much I want to try a new sport to me, even though I know only the fact that the ball isn't the shape of a... ball. I feel as if my life won't be as "fun" if I don't try football, y'know?

My cousin, Oliver Celaya, just traveled from our hometown in Mexico called Obregon Sonora to here in Phoenix Arizona so that he can attend my sister's quinceanera as the Main Chambelan. It took a lot of practice, but we nailed it... or at least some of us did. I don't think I did all that well. After that, he decided that he wanted to stay here with us a bit longer. Soon enough, he enrolled in North Canyon High School. He didn't know any English whatsoever, and he was fully aware that he was about to get into a school that's primary language is not Spanish, yet he wanted to go. I think it's because he'll probably get away with a lot of his homework that way, and he'll take advantage of that, but he says that he just wants to try to learn to speak English. Yeah, he's made 0 progress so far. But hey, at least he's doing something new.

How does this relate to the theme?

Although he's lived his entire life only knowing one language, he chose to enroll in an English school so that he can learn a second language.
