“There aren’t thirty different kinds of snow, Lucy says. There are two kinds. The clean kind and the dirty kind, clean and dirty. Only two. There are a million zillion kinds, says Nenny. No two exactly alike. Only how do you remember which one is which? She got three last names and, let me see, two first names. One in English and one in Spanish… And clouds got at least ten different names, I say.” (Cisneros 35-36)

Cisneros uses symbolism to illustrate the theme that everyone is unique by drawing a connection between types of clouds, names, etc. and the people who determine the number of each. From pages 35 and 36, Cisneros had an argument occur between Esperanza and Nenny versus Rachel and Lucy. Rachel and Lucy argued that "There aren't thirty different kinds of snow... only two." while Nenny claims that there are "A million zillion kinds." The contrasting opinions reflect the individuals.
