Explanation: Auggie has been used to children running away from him screaming and thinks he's ugly. He can anticipate that people are fearful of him.

Statement: Summer shows moral courage

Evidence: Upon seeing Auggie sitting alone at a lunch table, Summer did not hesitate and got up, walking away from the popular girls’ table to Auggie table. A girl said "Come back to the table." Summer just responded, "It is too crowded there come sit here, there is more space."(page 51,line 17)

Explanation: This shows that Summer knew about his facial deformation, but she did not took that factor as a consideration to be Auggie’s friend.

Statement: When referring to Auggie, Jack Will is protective.

Evidence: Jack Will punched Julian when Julian said something bad about Auggie (Julian called Auggie a freak). This was seen on <page 154>,

Julian: “We could have been partners. You don’t have to be friends with that freak if you don’t want to be, you know....”
And that’s when I punched him. Right in the mouth.

Explain: Even though Jack Will had once said something that offended Auggie, Jack Will apologized later on and sought for forgiveness. He respects how Auggie looked like and thought of Auggie as an ordinary boy. When Julian said something bad about Auggie, Jack Will got irritated and punched Julian as Jack Will did not like it when others thought bad about Auggie.

Statement: Auggie is smart
Evidence: ‘ “Did that lady who came to the house last time have something to do with this?” “It was a test you need to take to get into the school. You did very well on it, by the way.” '
Explanation: Beecher Prep was a very hard school to get in and the test was needed in the whole admission process. Auggie managed to get good grades for the test and was able to get into the school which no one expected.
Link: Since he could get into Beecher Prep, it shows that he was intelligent.

Statement: A cheerful friend to August.

Evidence: August and Jack Will make each other laugh in class a lot, and is one of August's first friends, and always helped him.

Explanation: August is in most of Jack's classes so Jack will not feel bored as they make each other laugh. He hates classes. When August was bullied by Julian, he will always ensure that August is not in danger and help him.

Statement: Summer is the only courageous girl amongst the popular girls.

Evidence: Seeing Auggie sitting alone eating during lunch, Summer walked up to him. Though, the other popular girl asked her to get back to the table she was sitting at.

Explanation: From this evidence, I can tell that Summer is the only one that is not intimidated by how Auggie looks like amongst the popular girls. Other than Summer, the popular girls got scared by how Auggie looked like.
