When they got home they took her to her bed and they found out she was missing at 5am the next morning. This story doesn't make sense because there was pineapple found in her system but her parents denied any knowledge of her consumption of the pineapple. This leads us to believe the parents were in on it and could have been trying to cover it up. Some people believe that JonBenet came downstairs in the middle of the night and stole some pineapple from Burke, but he snapped at her and struck her in the head with a flashlight. Then Burke got scared and went to tell his mother and she strangled her to make sure that JonBenet didn't remember anything. The dispatcher also noted that the mother switched between "missing" and "gone" on the call which leads Patsy to be involved because it sounds suspicious. When the police came they never checked the basement where she was found later that day in the afternoon. Also, when she was found, there was a note that matched the handwriting of Patsy.
