         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Lillian Wald had a great idea in 1909: to create school nurses. Wald spoke with the Board of Education to hire a Henry Street nurse to work within the school system.&nbsp;</div><ul><li>These nurses were able to provide follow-up and at-home care for children after being deemed sick at school.</li></ul><div>-In 1912, Wald helped aid in the spur of the Children's Bureau. This was the first government agency solely dedicated to children's welfare.<br><br>-After Congress enacted the first federal legislation for children's health and welfare, the 1921 Sheppard-Townder Act was passed, and nurses could coordinate most of the educational and health screenings. <br><br><br>Connolly, C.          <description><![CDATA[<div>The Committee for the Study of Nursing Education published its recommendations for <em>Nursing and Nursing Education in the United States. This</em> was a document also known as Goldmark Report.</div><ul><li>This document spoke about the inability to provide adequate education for public health nurses. Consequentially, education was limited in some areas. For example, some schools did not receive training on communicable diseases, one of the biggest causes of mortality in young children.</li><li>This created a movement to broaden the education for nurses everywhere and expand the specialties of these nurses.</li></ul><div><br><br>Taylor, M.          <title>1930s-1980s</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The 1930s was the Depression era. These nurses began providing children healthcare through the Child Health Recovery Program and the Social Security Act (Connolly, 2007).<br><br>Dr. Loretta Ford and Dr. Henry Silver created the first pediatric nurse practitioner role in Colorado in 1960 (Berg, 2020).<br><br>In the 1960s, nurses' success with child health programs was important because of their participation in Medicaid-funded programs and the new infrastructure needed to support the 1975 legislation that ensured quality education for all children, even those with mental and physical disabilities (Connolly, 2007).&nbsp;<br><br>By 1977, pediatric nurse practitioners were finally certified by what is known now as the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (Taylor, 2006).<br><br>Many Associations were created during the 1960s and above:&nbsp;</div><ul><li>1969- National Association of School Nurses</li><li>1971- Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nurses</li><li>1973- Association of Pediatric Oncology Nurses</li><li>1973- Association of Pediatric Nurse Associates and Practitioners</li><li>1984- National Association of Neonatal Nurses</li><li>(Taylor, 2006).</li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Society of Pediatric Nurses, the first organization specifically for generalists in pediatric nursing, was formed.</div><ul><li>This society worked closely alongside the ANA and other organizations to develop standards for general and advanced practice pediatric nursing (Taylor, 2006).</li></ul><div><br>The first nursing textbook was created in 1923 (Connolly, 2007).<br><br></div><div>In 1996 the Statement on the Scope and Standards of Pediatric Clinical Practice was published (Taylor, 2006).</div>]]></description>
