Sungazer focus on pushing the boundaries of what makes music, using metric modulation and very virtuosic jazz harmonies. Their combination of modern jazz with harmonically involved electronic instruments inspire me to do the same: push the listeners conception of what is characterised as music compared to noise.

Chopin's compositions often make appearance in Muse's music, for example, "Collateral Damage" is nearly an identical performance as "Nocturne in E-Flat Major (Op.9 No.2)" and "Bliss" can be heard to be influenced by Ètude Op. 25 (MuseWiki, 2018). His virtuosic piano techniques can often be heard being reciprocated in Matt Bellamy's playing.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers

[he] must've been about 15, 16 years old ... thinking headlining a festival is definetly the top of being a live band" (Matthew J.B., 2004. Interview Pinkpop). Muse's success aa a live band could therefore be associated to their early exposure to Chilli Peppers.

Queen

Queen's use of vocal harmonisations defines a lot of their sound as a band, which Muse's vocalist Matt Bellamy also make use of. Whether it's background choir-like harmonies such as songs "Butterflies & Hurricanes" and "Something Human", or full chordal construction over the main melody like in "Knights of Cydonia" the link to "one of Queen's trademark sounds ... their vocal harmonies" (Nick B., 2016) can be heard.

Buttonmasher

Buttonmasher has a huge focus on video game type synths in jazz, which is also what Sungazer incorporate very often. Buttonmasher "released an album of jazz standards that are paired with classic video game sound-sets" (Super-Sonic Jazz, 2023) which Sungazer claim "get a huge kick out of that" (Sungazer, 2023).

Evan Marien

Evan Marien and Dana Hawkins' music they create uses jazz chordal structures with arpeggiated synths very similar to Sungazer's style. Adam Neely commented on the music video for "Cali - Evan Marien x Dana Hawkins", claiming it's "Just the best! I'm so influenced and inspired by this project" (Adam N., 2018).

Dana Hawkins

On an interview with Super-Sonic Jazz, Sungazer claims "we were inspired by the music of Evan Marien and Dana Hawkins" (Sungazer, 2023), and Dana Hawkins' virtuosic drumming techniques including nested tuplet fills and rhythmic modulations can be clearly heard being referenced by Shawn Crowder in his drumming with Sungazer.
