Summarize a tv show, movie or book that was set in a hospital/clinic/doctor's office.

at least 75 words

I decided to summarize one of the best movies I've ever seen set in a hospital, "Patch Adams". This is a semi-biographical tragicomic film, directed by Tom Shadyac and produced in 1998. The film is based on a true story and tell the life of Hunter "Patch" Adams, who attempts to commit suicide but ultimately fails and chooses to self-intern in a mental institution. Once in there, he finds out that using humor rather than medical psychotherapy, is more efficient in helping his fellow patients, and this provides him with a new purpose in life. Thus, he develops the desire of becoming a doctor and two years later, even if older than other students, he enrols University and start to study medicine. His main characteristic is that he criticises and questions the absence of empathy in the academic approach. Moreover, Adams encourages medicine students to closely cooperate with nurses, and argues that death should be treated with dignity and sometimes even humor. Patch begins a friendship with a fellow student, Carin Fisher. Thanks to a wealthy man, who Patch met in the psychiatric hospital, and with the help of Carin and some old friends, he rebuilds an old cottage and transform it into a clinic (the future "Gesundheit! Institute").Inside this new and unusual clinic, they cure patients without medical insurance and with an alternative method that includes performing comedies for them. Patch's friendship with Carin turns soon into a love story. When she confesses him that she has been molested as a child, Patch reassures her and comforts claiming that she can overcome her pain helping others. Motivated, Carin decides to help a disturbed patient, who however kills her and commits suicide. Patch feels responsible and guilty for Carin's death and begins to question the goodness and the nature of humanity. Standing on a cliff, he again tries to commit suicide and asks God for an explanation. In this moment, he sees a butterfly that reminds him of Carin and the comparison that she always made with it, saying that she felt like a caterpillar that dreamed about transforming into a butterfly and flying away. The butterfly lands on his doctor's bag and his shirt before flying off. Patch decides to dedicate his work to Carin's memory. Patch manages to convince the University council that the medical approach must deal also with the spirit as well as with the body. Finally, he manages to graduate with the respect of all the colleagues and commission.
I love this film very much because it makes me understand that doctors and nurses should not only physically cure the patient, but also take care of his mental health by establishing a both professional and interpersonal relationship with the person. Moreover, the film depicts death not as a negative thing, but as a natural consequence of human life that, therefore, should be treated with humor and compassion.

In the last two years, the whole world has been shocked by a global pandemic that caused suffering and death. Thankfully and rapidly, the international healthcare system was able to develop a vaccine to stop the spread of this virus called Covid-19. However, people have been reluctant about getting this experimental medication into their body. But, as a nurse, I am here to push you to trust the healthcare system and scientific international community. Each individual should not only do an act of self-protection, but also of respect and love towards those who cannot take the booster-shot, have suffered the most by losing loved ones, who work night and day to try to heal and save lives! Let's all fight this virus together in order to hug each other, see each other faces, and come back to a normal life. How? Getting vaccinated!

Write 100-150 words.

I wish to become a nurse because I love curing and taking care of people. I know it is trivial to say, but I consider it one of the most beautiful and important jobs. I love helping and making a person feeling better, both physically and psychologically. Indeed, to me, being a nurse does not only mean taking care of a patient on a physical level, but also improving and guaranteeing his mental wellbeing. I felt the vocation of being a nurse about a year ago. At the end of my high school career, even if I was aware of the enormous difference between these two, I was struggling between following this path or studying art history. I finally decided to follow the nursing path since I have always enjoyed working in a hospital environment. I really appreciate the serene and collaborative atmosphere that colleagues can create between themselves while establishing a direct human relationship with patients. The vocation of being a nurse naturally aroused in my soul, and was not influenced by none circumstance or person. I am proud of having choose this career, already achieved a part of its path, and I hope to keep on reaching always bigger goals and realising always bigger dreams in this field.
