The many quotes included are pieces of evidence that portray how society will eventually evolve into one that obsesses over happiness and that intelligence is frowned down upon. This loosely represents the society that we live in today, where people are more occupied with their self image on social media rather than knowledge. Today, rather than using technology to gain information, people have started using it for the sole purpose of finding quick methods of happiness. This is showing that our society is slowly leaning towards Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. Beatty, the antagonist in the novel further proves this when he says, "The word 'Intellectual,' of course, became the swear word it deserved to be" (Bradbury 55). This quote shows that so many people focused on happiness in their society that being smart was seen as being a negative thing. Their society even lowers the standards making schools shorter showing that they believe that knowledge is a bad thing to keep and that they only want happiness. People who use social media in our society only show what they want us to see which are the good sides of things, proving that they only focus on happiness and entertainment. Technology could have useful benefits, but the society only uses it for their own entertainment and happiness.
