Over the weekend, I participated in a local bouldering competition, celebrating the 7th anniversary of 'Boulder+', a climbing gym located in Jurong. I joined the team event along with 3 friends, 2 being guys and 1 being a girl. Going into the competition, I seemed to be the strongest in the team, and I felt that pressure pushing me to try my hardest. As the first route started, all 4 members in my team managed to reach the top. I assume that this first route is the easiest out of all, despite being slightly scarier than the others. The 2nd route was a route that required very precise footwork and balancing, which caused many people to fall off the route, due to slipping off from no balance. Unfortunately, my team was a victim to that. One of my teammates had a shoulder injury from the route, which caused us to be a man down for the rest of the competition. We had 3 more routes after that. The 3rd route was probably the most physical demanding route out of every one, and I was unable to complete it. The other guy in my team was the only person in the team who managed to reach the top. Unfortunately, our female climber was unable to start the route due to the physical requirements the route demands. The last 2 routes were easier for me as it required dynamic movements such as jumping and swinging, which was my style. I managed to complete both routes on the 1st try, and so as my teammate did. These 2 routes were also quite physically demanding, with lesser technique needed, but more strength and power required. Our female climber could not do much sadly, but we all had fun. I celebrated at the top and hyped the crowd up, which created louder cheers. It was pretty surreal for me, and I definitely enjoyed it. I would go to such an event like this again, and hopefully find more success, potentially reaching podium position.

I was about to leave my house, maybe to grab some food, or maybe to go bouldering, or maybe just taking a walk outside. I saw my father, standing out of the door of my house, looking at the floor, perhaps cleaning something. Down on the floor was a spider, yellow and black, beautiful creature, yet a very scary one. It looked like double the size of my hand, with its very thin legs and big body, I felt trapped within my own house. I decided to make a jump for it. I got out completely fine. Figured that was the only problem I had, I was wrong. There was quite literally 1 more spider that just so happened to be right above me, at the ceiling, waiting to drop on me. This time, red and black, roughly the same size as the other spider, tried to jump down onto me. It missed my head if it was trying to go for that, and it also missed anything else it was most likely targeting. It hit my shoulder while jumping down onto me. It must not have calculated its angles right, I mean it was right above me, wouldn't that get me quite easily? No, it fell straight down to the floor from my shoulder, and died. How did that even happen? My dad ran over to me, and I hid behind him, as we both stared at that yellow and black spider, sitting at the front of our door, with not a care in the world it seems. My dream got ruined shortly after from the alarm clock, but glad to say, it was not a nightmare.

Non fiction:

Getting over a traumatic experience

Storyline:

This ex-rock climber took a heavy fall, injuring himself. This caused him to be scared of rock climbing ever again. However, he saw a video online, a video that quite resembles him, but that video gave him motivation again. It gave him the motivation to try and give the sport one final shot again, hopefully to gain back what he has lost, and perhaps grow even further. As he reaches the climbing centre, he spots his friends climbing, which gives him more motivation to push himself forward to climbing, in the end, he ends up getting on the wall, reliving his passion all over again.

What if:

What if he ends up injuring himself again? What would he do after that?

What if he gives up halfway while trying to return to the sport?

Story question:

Will he be able to enjoy his once beloved sport like he used to, or will he never look at it the same again?

Central theme:

Overcome your fear and rediscover passion
