The song follows a high-school girl who is raped at a party and has an abortion. Although the song has very serious themes, it is very upbeat and seems "carefree". The song is meant to make people feel shocked since rape and abortion are topics that are not easily discussed.
Directed by Michael Pope
Produced by BriAnna Olson & MediaVox

This line addresses how sexual abuse victims will hide their true feelings. Listening to the song may make listeners uncomfortable since such a dark topic is discussed very lightly and freely. It is obvious that the character Amanda plays does care about what happened to her as she mentions it throughout the song. She simply covers it up by mentioning Oasis repeatedly.

This line covers why abuse victims may not share what happens to them. It shows how even your "best friend" can break your trust. It is relevant because it emphasizes that abuse and abortion are things that need to be talked about. Melissa had also been abused and may have told people about Amanda to take attention away from herself. This situation could have been avoided if the girls lived in a society where reported sexual abuse is taken seriously.

I believe that this piece is effective in its purpose. Oasis works because its shocking nature forces the viewer to really listen and reconsider It reminds the viewer that although someone may seem upbeat and happy, they could be going through something as serious as sexual assault or an abortion.

Many victims of sexual abuse use the following coping mechanisms to help them live life after abuse:

Denying

Avoiding

Minimizing

Rationalizing

Victims do this as they do not feel like they can seek social support. Amanda's song Oasis forces the viewer to see how ridiculous it is to expect a sexual abuse survivor to live this way.
