This year I'm teaching grade 3 students and it's been such a pleasant challenge to work on their writing and reading issues.
I must say I'm blessed by a choice of the school I work for: they signed an online guided reading resource and added it in the curriculum of all grades. 
If you don't know what guided reading is, it's simple. A learner reads with a support of a teacher who respects his;her level of reading skill, while show and discuss reading strategies. The website we use is www.raz-kids.com. After the student reads the book, he;she can answer questions, do a quiz, record their voices and earn stars by it. All feedback is made by the teacher, not by the program (it's possible send messages and set the amount of stars for each activity). 
As this resource offers questions with written answers, students practice the new vocabulary writing.
