The city has a population of 325,000 inhabitants, while the residents of the metropolitan area are more than 400,000. However, this number does not include the floating population of students: as ClujNapoca is today one of the most important academic and cultural centres in Romania, hosting 6 statefunded universities and 3 private ones, there is an average of over 60,000 students.

The city of Cluj, Kolozsvár in Hungarian, Klausenburg in German, spreads out from St. Michael’s Church in the Union Square, built in the 14th century and named after the Archangel Michael, its patron saint. It gradually gained an important political, economic and cultural position within the province of Transylvania, being a multicultural city with a diverse cultural and religious life.

A vibrant and pleasant city today, Cluj-Napoca also has a diverse and growing cultural scene, with cultural life exhibited in a number of fields, including the visual arts, performing arts and nightlife.

What to see and visit in Cluj-Napoca?

• St. Michael’s Cathedral in the Union Square, in the very heart of the city. It is one of the oldest and most appreciated Transylvanian monuments of gothic architecture, built between 1350 and 1487, probably immediately after the settlement had officially become a town, in 1316. After the Black Church in Brasov, it is the largest Gothic building between Vienna and Istanbul.

• The Museum Square, a 2 minute walk from the Union Square, is home to the Franciscan Monastery.

• The Botanical Garden spreads over 14 hectares of abrupt and hilly land. It is the largest botanical garden of southern Europe and the third largest in the world, and contains among others a Roman and Japanese garden, greenhouses for equatorial and tropical plants, a small water course through its middle, and a tower to get a better view of the garden arrangements. Founded in 1920, the Garden belongs at present to “Babeş-Bolyai” University.

• The Central Park is a welcome break from the rush of the city. The middle of the park hosts a small lake and the Chios Casino, from the terrace of which you can rent rowboats and hydrobicycles to circle the small island in the centre of the lake.

• The Ethnography Museum of Transylvania and the National Ethnography Park "Romulus Vuia".

• National Museum of the History of Transylvania.

• The National Theatre and Opera, and the Hungarian Theatre and Opera.

• The Philharmonic Orchestra.

• The Art Museum, and many many others.

The Arbëresh Territory and Costume Museum was set up inside Palazzo Bugliari, a neoclassical style building from 1848.

The costumes, preserved inside the display cases, are all original, the result of purchases or donations.

The first floor is structured into 4 rooms, in which the daily costume, the half-mourning or gala costume, the party and wedding dress and finally the mourning dress and a rare example of half-mourning dress, or it would be better say uncertain mourning, are displayed. This last dress was worn in all those cases in which the widow was not certain of being a widow, since her husband had not been declared dead, but missing. The upper floor is dedicated to the showing of wedding and party dresses. Very fine clothes, composed of a long white shirt decorated with elaborate lace, two pleated skirts, whose characteristic folds were obtained with the heat given off by the steam, decorated with gold braid. Even the jacket that covered the shirt was embroidered in gold, as was the keza that covered the hair gathered at the back of the neck and finally the veil that covered the head and shoulders. To further embellish everything, the women showed off a series of gold ornaments: necklaces, bracelets, earrings, brooches. It was customary to wear a necklace made of a black satin ribbon with a gold pendant or cameo in the center. In the half party dress, however, the bolero was made of black velvet, the skirts had wider pleats and were decorated with satin stripes.

Santa Sofia d'Epiro (in Arbëreshë Shën Sofia is an Italian municipality of 2,111 inhabitants in the province of Cosenza in Calabria, located at 558 meters above sea level on the northwestern slope of the Sila Greca, on the right bank of the Crati river.

It is an Arbëreshë (Italian-Albanian) municipality in Calabria and still preserves the traditions transmitted by the Albanians settled in the territory, such as the ancient Albanian language, the Byzantine-Greek rite (typical of the Arbëreshë), the uses, customs and typical traditions.

Inserted in a nature reserve, it maintains its original medieval architectural physiognomy, with a strong Balkan imprint. In the town, in addition to an important museum of Albanian costume, there is an academy of art and music. There are numerous groups that apply themselves to musical metric research, two of which, since the beginning of the third millennium, They play and sing in Albanian, taking up traditional polyphonic songs and the Arbëreshe musical and cultural tradition.
