(Manadi, S. 2018) Khloe is seen promoting a non-FDA approved vitamin that is supposed to make your hair grow. As we learned in class, there is so much stigma around beauty and long hair. Khloe who is well known for wearing extensions, should not be promoting these supplements that can pose as a potenial threat to the buyers health because of the unknown side effects. Reports have shown that the number one buyer are females in high school and college. Since hair is seen as a representation of beauty, it is understandable the lengths females will go to achieve long hair or copy their favourite celebrity.

(Instagram, 2019) These twins are most famous for going under the knife to alter their appearance. They have admitted to getting multiple procedures done to enhance their looks as well as using skin lightning agents to make themselves appear much lighter. In media those with lighter skin tones are more accepted over those with darker tones. In order for them to feel accepted and become more successful, they have changed their looks drastically. They also use wigs as their natural hair is not accepted by society. We learned how black women are constantly shamed and are forced to get European features and whitewashing themselves. These two are a prime example of that.

(Instagram, 2019) This Fashion Nova model is showing off one of their outfits. Fashion Nova is a very popular clothing store that buyers can purchase items online as well. A lot of A-list celebrities like Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, and Khloe Kardashian are well-known for wearing their clothes. All of Fashion Nova's model are very curvaceous like the one you see here and sends the message to the buyer that they must look a certain way in order for them to be able to pull of their clothes. This 20- year old model shown here has had many procedures done such as, butt implants, breast augmentation, liposuction, lip fillers and nose job just to name a few. This sends the wrong message that people who do not fit a certain criteria are not able to wear these clothes.

(HLN, 2013) Kim is showing receiving a facial that involves using her own blood to be pumped back into her face to produce more collagen, which can aid in the appearance of youthfulness. The procedure seems be extremely painful and you can see her discomfort throughout. Despite the procedure being very invasive and painful, Kim has posted this video on her instagram and has now influenced other people to get the vampire facelift done as well, even though medically it does not have any long-term effects.

Man who paid 50k to look like Kim Kardashian (Video)

(Channel 4, 2017) A man from the UK has paid over 50k in procedures to look like Kim Kardashian after viewing her on 'Keeping up with the Kardashians.' He believes that before he got any procedures done that he looked "boring" and got his first procedure done at the age of 17, becoming addicted ever since. He "worships the fake look" as his idol Kim has had so many procedures done as well. Since then he has gotten botox done to prevent himself from looking "old." Society has become obsessed with keeping their youth as though people of an older age are not capable of remaining beautiful. He and many others have gotten botox done to reduce wrinkles and laugh lines that are completely normal to have, but frowned upon by social media.

Photoshop App (Video)

(Buzzfeed, 2015) This video shows women given the opportunity to alter their appearance using an app. As mentioned in the video, the app automatically changes the appearance to a more hourglass figure. One girl wanted to make herself appear more skinny as if being skinny and being considered pretty go hand in hand. Others wanted to give themselves thigh gaps, bigger boobs and one female even wanted a "Disney princess waistline." Although the females liked their finished looks, they did agree that it gave them "self-esteem issues" because they know that they do not actually look like that. Magazines are known for photoshopping their models, so it easy to become addicted to wanting to change your appearance to look more like what is constantly being advertised.

(Katz, B 2015) Here is an article that shows women going against the beauty odds and showing off despite the beauty standards that are not in their favour. As we discussed in class there is such a lack of representation of women with stretch marks, skin conditions, disabilities, genetic disorders, plus-sized and or ethnic backgrounds in the media. This article shows these courageous women and displays them in a different way. These ladies use their platforms to inspire others to not be afraid of the skin they are in. Winnie Harlow is a successful model who suffers from vitiligo, proving that you can still be beautiful despite a skin condition. Lizzie Velásquez has a rare genetic disorder that prevents her from gaining weight, and was shown on youtube as "The Ugliest Woman in the World." Lizzie started her own youtube channel where she promotes body positivity and represents that beauty is bigger than skin deep.

(Sandoiu, A, 2018) In this article it states that "Social media engagement with attractive peers increases negative state body image" these means that when teens are scrolling through instagram and facebook and seeing these beautiful women with perfected bodies they begin feeling bad about their own appearance. This is having a negative impact on how they see themselves. They begin to lose self-esteem because they do not look a certain way.

(Rodgers, S. 2018) In this article it talks about the negative effects social media has not only on our looks, but also on our well-being. All we ever see is size 2-4 models in the magazines when the average North American wears a size 12. This has caused many women to feel overweight and become bulimic. We have become obsessed with how many likes we get and how we portray ourselves to the world because social media influencers have "perfect, put-together lives" It is important to know that you cannot believe everything you see online and to be happy with the person you are.
