Abraham Lincoln Takes A National Role, from Library of Congress
http://www.loc.gov/teachers/classroommaterials/primarysourcesets/lincoln/pdf/teacher_guide.pdf

In the article, it states," he would work to “preserve, protect, and defend” the integrity of the Union. He now stood poised to resolve a conflict much greater than any he had encountered in his professional or political life. " This helped me by adding onto other claims about Abe having such nationalism, and bravery. He stood up to everyone who was against him nd his beliefs. PEople who were like that were the south, and some of the North. Prvoing more than half of the people of this time in the north and south are all telling Lincoln he shouldn't do that, and he does it anyways to protect the blacks, who he believes should be free.

https://basic.newspapers.com/image/54329386/?terms=Abraham%2Blincoln

In the newspaper linked above, it talks about Dr. Newell Dwight Hillis, a pastor who preached on Abe Lincoln. He was shining light on Abe, 50 years after everything he has done! This newspaper was published on February 15, 1909, in The Brooklyn Daily Eagle on page 21. One of the most striking characteristics of Lincoln mentioned was his Americanism. Showing that he had so much pride in America. You could really see that in the beginning of the movie when Abe tried to make America better for everyone, not just the North. He wanted every American, white or black, to be free and be equal, just as he believe that God intended.

Also as shown under the subtitle, The Cause of the Great Conflict, The author shows a point that slavery was the occasion of the war, but not the cause. Slavery was the match that lit the powder magazine, though the powder magazine could have been set off by a spark of flint and steel. In a broader description, there could have been a hundred different other reasons for the war to start, but slavery was a big issue to Lincoln, so slavery itself became the first separation between our country.

I do not think that this movie needs any improvements. I say this because the story line did not go too fast or slow, the actors did very well with their voices and actions as a person in this time, and I learned a lot from the content of this movie. Rather, some information could be wrong, but it gave me an idea of how times were like back at home during a war.

Civil War Enlightening

This movie has taught me a lot about the Civil War and about the controversy in the North. It showed me how the conditions of the soldiers were, how they were treated after they died on the field, and how many people were against the 13th amendment. No one wanted to let their slaves go, because they thought that they were born less equal. The Civil War was not only a war on the battle grounds, but a war in the White house, between political parties.

The main idea of the movie in my belief was to show how Lincoln was treated, and how he used that to motivate him more in getting what he wanted, slavery abolished. This ties into the movie, because it is shown that so many people don't want the 13th amendment passed and they all say that he can't do it, yet he keeps making all these plans to get the 20 more votes that he needs.

It's January, 1865, and US President Abraham Lincoln has just started his second term in office as popular leader. However, the country is in with the Civil War, entering its fourth year and having many lives taken on both sides. Lincoln believes that passage of the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution would end the war. The Amendment has already passed in the Senate, and is scheduled for vote in the House of Representatives at the end of the month. While he is assured of yes votes from his Republicans, he has to assure enough yes votes from Democrats. Meanwhile, Lincoln also deals with his relationship with wife Mary Lincoln, and their oldest son, Robert Lincoln, who wants to leave law school to enlist.

I would personally recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys historical movies, or fascinated with Abe Lincoln. For everyone in this movie is an amazing actor, and has a great story line. The way that they talk on this movie, I think sounds like how they would talk in these times, which makes this a little more intriguing. This movie for me, a non-historical junkie, is very interesting and I enjoyed it very much.

" Abraham Lincoln a man of Faith and Courage" By Joe Wheeler

If you were interested in the movie , "Lincoln," and you would like to learn a little more about Abe and how his leadership was shaped so well, I highly recommend the book named at the top. This book shows a different side of Lincoln, a part of him that has not been told as well in the number of other books he has about him. It shows how Lincoln is a man of faith and courage, and how that faith shaped his leadership.

Such as, the growing support for abolition among many in the American public. I believe they did this to put more emphasis on how many people were against abolishing slavery. This doesn't seem like a very important idea to put in there, but for in this time, Lincoln and his beliefs relied on the growing of people agreeing with his Emancipation Proclamation.

He was so courageous and brave to stand up against everyone's beliefs and stand up for the slaves. Even when he did, he wouldn't let the free slaves worship and bow for him, he wanted them to know that God made for them to be free and that they were deprived of their freedom for so long. In the beginning of the movie, it shows how everyone is trying to get Lincoln to not try and pass the 13th amendment. They were trying to break him and get him to wait until his next term, if he won. He is supposed to lose by 20 votes, and so his wife is trying to get him to not try and start a war in the white house over something that is bound to fail.
