At the beginning, Tyler Joseph sings “I wish I found some better sounds no one’s ever heard / I wish I had a better voice that sang some better words / I wish I found some chords in an order that is new” Although I am not a musician, I am very interested in 3D animation and game development. I often see the works of other animators on Youtube and feel that I am not good enough or creative enough. I see animators modeling and humans that look so real that the uncanny valley doesn’t apply anymore. I also see people animating glowing wisps and explosions, and I wish that I can do that too. The humans that I animate are very cartoonish. I don’t even know how to animate explosions.

In the chorus, Joseph sings “Wish we could turn back time, to the goold ol’ days / when our momma sang us to sleep but now we’re stressed out.” I wish I can be back in elementary school when grades don’t matter and I don’t have to worry about college or life. If I am back in elementary school, I don’t have to even try in school. Also, now that I am going to college, I have to worry about things like finding a job, insurance, finding a future house, and a lot of things. I get very stressed just thinking about these things. I don’t even know the first steps in processes of getting insurance or buying a house. College itself seems like a nightmare. UC Irvine has a 1,000 page General Catalogue that explains the millions of requirements students need to fulfill to graduate. Just looking at the course selection page makes me let a out a plaintive groan. The course requirements are very confusing and many courses satisfy more than one category.

My favorite novel from all of high school is Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. It is a hilarious story. I especially love the part when Huck and Tom are trying to help Jim escape from the locked hut. Although Huck could have easily broke Jim out in a few hours through the hut window, Tom had an incorrigible desire to execute the escape in hardcore ways as described in storybooks. Trying to dig a hole with spoons to crawl into the hut, they wasted a lot of time. Tom even had a spade nearby, but insisted on using a spoon. He even had Jim write notes on plates and throw them out the hut window like a hardcore prisoner. When Huck and Tom are finally inside the hut, they had me rolling. They could have, as Huck observed, lifted up the bed and slipped Jim’s chains out, but they instead saw the bed leg in half and glue it back together, which is pathetic. What was most stupid was that Jim was legally a free slave during all the time they were trying to break him out.

1) Naruto

2) Family Guy

3) Tom and Jerry

4) Wile E Coyote

5) South Park

6) Alfred and Poe

7) Spongebob Squarepants

8) The Joy of Painting

9) Doraemon

10) Walking Dead

My favorite TV show of all time is Naruto. I began watching in my senior year of high school, since I saw it being mentioned by internet celebrities and I remembered that some of my classmates used to watch it. I really enjoyed the show. Previously, I had been watching shows like Family Guy and South Park. Compared to these shows, Naruto has extremely high quality animations, with dynamic camera angles, beautiful settings, and amazing fight scenes. The early seasons of Naruto were animated in the 1900s, which makes the show all the more beautiful. The storyline of Naruto is very compelling, though I wish the show would stop spending so much time on Rock Lee’s story. He is a very annoying character with a boring back story.

I started watching Family Guy also in my senior year. I remember I watched an episode in a hotel room on a family vacation and I really enjoyed it. On good episodes, I would laugh so much that my brother comes into my room and asks me if I am alright.

Tom and Jerry has been a favorite ever since elementary school. I still of Tom and Jerry DVDs at home. I am a big fan of the Tom and Jerry classic edition animation style, with its slapstick comedy and dynamic animations.

Wile E Coyote is also a long time favorite of mine. I have episodes of the show on VHS at home. The show takes slapstick comedy to its most extreme and involves zero dialogue.

South Park is a show with often inappropriate content and insulting humor, but I can tolerate it and often find it hilarious. Although it has great content, the animation sometimes annoys me due to its absolute pathetic quality.

Alfred and Poe is a discontinued 3D animated series on Youtube, Spongebob Squarepants is on Nickelodeon, The Joy of Painting is a relaxing painting show, Doraemon is a Japanese anime with a robot cat, and Walking Dead is a thrilling zombie show.

1) Twenty One Pilots

2) Imagine Dragons

3) Alessia Cara

4) BIGBANG

5) BTS

6) The Chainsmokers

7) Bruno Mars

8) Michael Jackson

9) Seth MacFarlane

10) Scott Bradley

Twenty One Pilots is my favorite band. I am not a hardcore Twenty One Pilots fan who focuses on their song lyrics, but I take pleasure in listening to their songs casually. Tyler Joseph has a sort of lazy, I-don’t-care voice which I like. Josh Dun is a cool drummer. I used to wish that I could play the drums because of him.

My favorite songs of Imagine Dragons include “Demons,” “Sucker for Pain,” and “It’s Time.” Demons was the first song that I memorized the lyrics to, because I listened to it so many times. I once saw Imagine Dragons pull off an amazing live performance of “Radioactive” on Youtube, which solidified my favor towards them. The live performance sounded better than the studio version of “Radioactive.”

I listened to Alessia Cara’s first song “Here” just a day after it came out and I like how droning and dark it sounded. Her other songs “Stay” and “Scars to Your Beautiful” are also great.

I started listening to BIGBANG in around 2014. My incipient reaction to them after viewing their music video “Fantastic Baby” was that they were very cool, full-of-swag people. My favorite member is T.O.P., because he has a super deep voice. BIGBANG is the only kpop group that sounds unique, because each member has distinct vocal characteristics.

BTS is another kpop group that I like. They sound like a ordinary boy band, but their songs are pleasant to listen to. The Chainsmokers have great songs like “Paris” and “Closer.” I like Bruno Mars because he can sing and dance very well live. Michael Jackson is also a fantastic live performer. I have watched his 2001 performance of “Billie Jean” many times on Youtube. Seth MacFarlane is not only a talented voice actor, but also an entertaining musician. I like his song “You and I are so Awfully Different.” Scott Bradley is the composer of Tom and Jerry sound track. I like his lively, whimsical music influenced by classical and jazz.

Fondest Memory
When I consider all of my four years of high school, my fondest memory is that of me attending my first 3D animation workshop in robotics club. I remember that the animation lead Alex taught me how to create primitive objects in Autodesk Maya, a 3D computer graphics software, and stack them to make simple objects. I remember that I drew a tank and Alex animated it driving in a circle using a path constraint. I was mesmerized when I watched Alex animate a rigged humanoid character and pann around a beautiful city scene. As soon as my parents bought me my own laptop two years later, I immediately began learning as much as I could about Autodesk Maya. My first animation workshop kickstarted my interest in computer graphics and lead me to develop a passion for game development a few years later, since both animation and coding are needed in producing games.

Letter to Son/Daughter
Dear Son/Daughter,

I hope you will not exist in my future. I don’t want kids. They seem like such a mental and financial burden. I don’t even want to be married. However, if by some unfortunate miracle you do exist, I have some advice for you for high school. First, join clubs or extracurricular activities to try out new things and find a passion in life. Life is less stressful when you have a general direction you know you are going towards, even if that end goal keep changing slightly or dramatically. By my junior year, I new that I had a passion for computer graphics and game development due to my participation in the 3D animation division of the high school robotics team and my attendance of a hackathon. My next advice is to not take Chemistry Honors. It is the hardest course you will ever take in high school and you will be miserable. Unless you truly love chemistry, don’t take it and to prevent the torture.

Greatest Fear After High School
My greatest fear with regard to life after high school is finding and maintaining a job. I am afraid that I will not do well in job interviews because of my shyness and complete antisocial quality. The interviewers will probably realize that I am stupid right when I walk in and demonstrate my clumsiness and idiotic speech patterns. If I do not get a job I will be homeless. I do not want to be homeless, because I will have to grow a beard and stand on the sidewalks with a cardboard sign. I probably will not even have the intelligence or the social skills to acquire a piece of cardboard, putting other homelesses at an advantage over me in the money-begging business. I hope I find a job soon after graduating college. I will be happy even if I make minimum wage and a fast food restaurant. My current dream is to work in some sort of video game or animation company, like Naughty Dog or Pixar. It would be amazing and kind of funny if I actually succeed in this dream, due to my terrible intellectual and social qualities.

My Literary Self

Favorite High School Literary Work

My favorite high school literary work was from the beginning of freshman year in Mr. Seike’s class. It has a lot of grammatical and spelling errors, but I think it is kind of funny. I don’t remember clearly what Mr. Seike’s exact instructions were, but he probably asked us to make up an adventure story. This essay clearly shows my love for chocolate chip cookies, since, in the story, I get very upset when I lose my chocolate chip cookie. The story also shows that I am sometimes creative and a little violent. Normal people would never think of the concept of tying people down and running them over with steamrollers. I think the idea may have came from the book Goosebumps: Night of the Living Dummy. Goosebumps was a horror series I enjoyed reading at the time this story was written. In Night of the Living Dummy, a living dummy was run over by a steamroller.
