The poems 'Remains' and 'War Photographer' shows personal experience of war. In the poem 'Remains', Armitage wrote this poem to show the effects of war and how it leads soldiers down a path of depression and guilt. Duffy's 'War Photographer is similar to 'Remains' as war effects the photographer like it effects the soldier but the photographer hasn't murdered or severely injured anyone as his job is to take photos of war which could still lead him to depression but since he is use to doing his job, he is more focused on his and has to cold hearted to do what he must do.

'Remains' and 'War Photographer' both have a turning point/Volta that are used in different ways to show the effects of war and how they can show their feelings. On the 5th stanza, the soldier says 'end of story, except not really'. This shows us that the soldier wants to end his story there, but feels to guilty and continues to tell his story, but shows us that he keeps on remembering and can't forget his actions he has committed. In 'War Photographer' the turning point/Volta is on the start of the 3rd stanza and shows that he is remembering the cry's of a man's wife which could mean he wishes he could do something about it but knows at the same time that he can't just think about it all the time and needs to concentrate on the positive things that comes from his job.

Both poems 'Remains' and 'War photographer' show how they are not recognised enough for their work. In war photographer, the work being to take photos of the suffering during the war and developing them to show and only hope people take pity and help. On the other hand in Remains the work is for the solider to fight for the country. They also both show there own personal experience of suffering in war. However, in Remains the solider is actually in the war whereas in war photographer the photographer is just witnessing the war.

Firstly, Duffy uses an regular structure in war photographer reflecting in comparison how the war zone gives an effect of chaos, violence and distress. Secondly by choosing a regular structure she is highlighting how after everything the war photographer has been through, seeing hundreds of suffering victims everywhere and not being able to even gaze at them without the feeling of guilt. To just get back to England and for no one to care, for it to be exactly the same just like how the structure never changes and is always the same.
In Remains, Hughes uses an irregular structure to convey is feelings of guilt. Throughout the poem it constantly changes because he is constantly feeling more and more guilty. Similarly because his feelings are all over the place and the messy structure implies that.
