The scene where Priam found himself “was at the limit of his strength” crossing the river but “the arrival of a god” has strengthened him and induced him with “a slow energy flooded his lambs”. This demonstrates that if without others’ help, the king will also feel hopeless, which is similar to the scene in The Queen. As there is nobody helping her to solve those tough situations, the isolation and helplessness leads to the breaking point where she cries along the river on her own. Both of two scenes showcases the weaknesses and vulnerability of leaders, which conveys that even though leaders has strong authority and power, they still need some help from others motivating them to overcome the problems in their lives or work, which eventually helps them to achieve “a world of endless surprise.”

Frears wants to emphasise the queen's loneliness when she crossed the river. As a solemn monarch, the scene of crossing river try to express her weakness. The queen tries to show herself as a silent person. So her vulnerability has been highlighted in the scene. The grief of Priam has been showed from crossing the river. The emotion which try to expressed from the scene is same as The Queen's one. However, The despair of the Priam is more obvious. That's also connect with the different leadership of the Queen and Priam. The queen is silence and Priam's feelings are more exposed。

In the Queen, Elizabeth showcases her vulnerabilities at a human level of which she sobs alone by the riverside. Although she turns her back to the camera, still it is the only scene in the film where she releases her burden as a sovereign who has been "taking the bullet" for the entire monarchy. Whereas in Ransom, Priam encountered trivial matters that are not in his "royal sphere" for the first time and puts his "royal foot" in the stream like "an obedient toddler", indicating that Priam, alike Elizabeth, is also starting to step out of his "golden husk" and to see the world at a human level. Both texts reveals how river, as the purest substance in nature, allows the crown to unveil its pompous facade and to flow into mainstream life as a human.

In both film The Queen and novel Ransom, director Frears and writer Malouf both construct a transition scene of protagonists crossing pass a stream, which serves as a recharging opportunity for them to regain strengths for opposing the adversity and self-liberating from some conventional values and protocol. The stream as a symbol of rebirth, it here seeks to inspire the audiences to recognize the Queen and Priam’s change of self and values through a literate approach of baptism. Here, both Frears and Malouf seeks to explore that despite adversity, it’s natural for individuals to maintain hope and resilience towards their life burden and adversity.

By describing Priam crossing the river, Malouf metaphorizes the experience is the turning point of Priam’s life. Due to this “adventure”, Malouf tends to point out the changes of Priam back in Troy compared to this moment when he cross the river, that he became “steadfast, even bold” to go and ransom his son’s body. From this “transformation” from a king to man, Malouf presents that a good leader should always be reflexible, making changes towards a better way to gain profit. Similar to the queen Elizabeth, in the scene where Queen Elizabeth driving the car and attempts to cross the river, but then she was stuck as the car broken. Due to so much trouble and unfairness happened on her, Queen Elizabeth finally showed her weakness through her tears, but then Frears adopts the ”beauty” stag to inspire the queen, which the queen noticed she must change her style of handing things. From this changes of the queen before and after the river crossing, Frears films this experience as another turning point same as Priam.

Both Frears and Malouf adopt the crossing river to highlight the transition of characters in mind and action.

In the Queen, when the point of car breaking down in the river, the Queen’s emotion is no longer reserved and collapsed in this moment. Meanwhile, the occurrence of “a 14 pointer stag” as a symbolism of royal privilege and sublime status, stimulates the Queen’s realisation of “world has changed”, hardening the Queen’s resolution to step out of the convention even though under the pressure of possible consequences-the guilty of betraying the way “she is brought up with” and “damag[ing] the monarchy”-to meet the public expectation. Similarly, in Ransom, on the way across the river, Priam’s hesitation is dispelled and his determination to be an “ordinary man” out of “golden husk” is strengthened. Therefore, The symbolisation of crossing river is crossing the difficulties and facade from conventional and abstract world.

Both Frears and Malouf employed the river crossing as a symbol of the change in mind for both the Queen and Priem. The loneliness the queen experiences while there is no one helping her gives space to breathe from the royal standard, and really think about the requirement of her citizen. Frears employs the stag as a symbol of the Queen's private persona, the running away and death of the stag prssent the loss of the Queen's privacy, treating her "galmour and tear" as a tool, give the public "a grand performence" as the public wishes. Thus, Frears hignlights suffering the Queen experiences, and the river being a turning point for her dicision to be modernised as required. However, though the river crossing is a sign for change, Malouf employed it conversly. the crossing river refers Priem change from a king to "an ordinary man, a father". The change in position of Priem convinces the readers to treat the leaders with humanity, not a symbol of authority and power. Therefore, even though both Frears and Malouf employed the crossing river as a sign for their change of mind, the protagonists go onto converse paths for their future life.

In The Queen and Ransom, Frears and Malouf explore (the idea of HOW making (own) A compromise CAN (is a) PROVIDE relief (to oneself from the scene of crossing river in both texts). Frears (demonstrates) PRESENTS an obstinate figure of Queen Elizabeth who is unyielding (and responsible on her) ABOUT ‘duty first, self second’ (ethos being obligated for the Great Britain to cover herself with nonchalance). As the car (is accidentally broken in between) BREAKS DOWN CROSSING the river (crossing), she also eventually collapses (in her tenacious self-esteem) and starts weeping for her injustice and sorrow of being criticised by her country. Even though Frears (ascribing) DESCRIBES the Queen as a strong identity in the film, she pretends to be bullet-proof(ed). Crossing THE river suggests that it is her final compromise with herself (is the) THAT amelioratES (ion of) her burden as a Queen (where) AND she IS no longer (being) apathetic but with feelings.
Similarly in Ransom, it is Priam’s yeaRning (of mundanity) FOR THE MUNDANE that initiates the river crossing to relieve himself from the identity of a King [isn't he trying to reclaim his son's body? What you suggest seems incorrect]. The experience of being ‘bewildered’ is the reflection of a well-protected image of Priam where he was only an ‘obedient toddler’ to the outside world. This suggests THAT (he) as THE king of Troy (being) IS venerated by the whole country HE is never liberated from the seemingly (imprisoned bubble) PRISON of status quo. As a result, crossing the river is a precious opportunity for him to be in a jejune normality as other ordinary man. Therefore, both The Queen and Ransom examine HOW (that giving up on) SACRIFICING oneself is NECESSARY TO FIND (the) liberation FROM (to one’s strong) AN identity THAT OTHERWISE IMPRISONS THEM (from the action of crossing river. )

The Queen is a movie that set in early 20th Britain soon after the death of the ‘people’s princesses Diana’, whiles the novel Ransom is a reconstructive story of the Trojan war between the Troy and the Greek inspired from the ancient Greek epic poem Iliad. Both in the film and the novel, the protagonists share the identities as the monarchs and leaders of the country who can be easily identified through their royal costuming. Frears’ depiction of the Queen cladding in baroque royal attire, backdropped by the ornate setting of the luxurious and grand palace interior in the first scene when she is set to have her portray painted, simultaneously echoes to Priam’s royal dress-code and his herald who serves him and represent him in the public. With emphasis of the royal protocols and protagonists’ royal aura, both Frears and Malouf seeks to highlight them as the ‘ceremonial figures’ of their country who are distances from the mundane lifestyle and mainstream society.
