Kagan Structure

Name - Find Someone Who

What is it?
It is a cooperative learning structure. It can be used as an icebreaker for class building collaboration, or for mastering and reviewing skills. It requires the students to listen,
talk to each other and write.

How does it work?
The teacher makes a worksheet with a grid on it, and in each square the teacher would write something. For class building the teacher might write- find someone who has two or more siblings or find someone who speaks two languages and the students would walk around the room and talk to each other to fill in their grid with signatures or initials. For mastery and reviewing skills, the teacher would fill in the grid with topic content questions that need to be answered. The students again would walk around and find someone to answer one question in their grids.

When can it be used?
Find someone who can be used in all subject areas to review and master skills.

How to use it in the classroom?
Students will take the worksheet and raise their hand to find a partner. The first partner would ask the other a question from the worksheet and write down the answer, and then the other person would do the same. Afterwards, they would find new partners until their grid is complete.

To demonstrate this Kagan structure to the class the teacher could model how to fill out an icebreaker version of Find Someone Who. The teacher could have the students raise their hands and choose one of them as a partner and ask them a question and so on.
