The article, authored by ASCoR researchers Zeph van Berlo and Hilde Voorveld, together with Colin Campbell; (University of San Diego), introduces the MADE (Mapping, Assembling, Demonstrating, Executing) framework, a comprehensive set of best practices for the ethical and effective use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in creating experimental stimuli for communication research.

Article impact is determined based on total citations, as well as the article's advancement of theory and research in the field, impact on practice, and originality of the contribution in the past 5-8 years.

The award was handed out to Hilde Voorveld during the annual conference of the American Academy of Advertising in Pittsburgh last week. Congratulations!

“Augmented youth: Prevalence and predictors of AR filter use on social media among adolescents”

This award-winning study examines the situational triggers of smartphone use during social interactions, also referred to as co-present smartphone use. The research highlights how environmental cues such as others' phone use and notification frequency drive this behaviour, rather than individual traits like Fear of Missing Out or relatedness needs.
