During this time, Anna's grandparents were sent to residential school at the age of 7. They've experienced a lot of violence and also met some friends, they were scared and missed their parents a lot. Soon, my grandparents escaped the residential school and the nuns had not found them since. No one knows where they went, but it seems like they flew to China and live a new life. The Chinese government found out that they escaped residential school in Canada, they decided to kick them out of China and they were sent back to Canada with a new family.

By the time when Yang's grandparents were teens, they found jobs and worked for money. The racism was perpetuated by the Chinese Immigration Act and more than 100 other policies. They denied Chinese people the right to vote; practice law or medicine; hold public office; seek employment on public works; or own crown land, among other restrictions. Anna's grandparents' parents were dead after their sickness wasn't going well, so they had to take care of themselves and work hard for food and money. The Chinese community suffered low social standing, and the most devastating consequence of the Act was its impact on family life.

Yang's family started when Anna's grandparents experienced when women couldn't vote and had to give up their jobs. When lifestyle changes, a lot of new products were invented, cars dropped, and more new industries developed because of car industries. Sports were accomplished by many Canadians during the time, and a lot of Olympic games happened. Jazz music was popular in the 1920s, Anna's grandparents loved Jazz music and they actually enjoyed them since then. More new movies came out and dances.

Anna's grandma is a Japanese-Canadian. The forcible expulsion and confinement of Japanese Canadians during WW2 is one of the most tragic events in Canadian history. Some 21,000 Japanese Canadians were taken from their homes on Canada’s West Coast, without any charge or due process. Internment was a wartime measure enacted under the War Measures Act in the name of national security. However, it drew from a long history of anti-Asian racism and discrimination. Anna's grandma experienced how Asian racism back in 1948.

Anna's grandparents took a trip to Germany where the Holocaust was happening. The Holocaust is defined as the systematic persecution and murder of 6 million Jews and 5 million non-Jews, including Roma and Sinti, Poles, political opponents, LGBTQ people and Soviet prisoners of war (POWs), by Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945. Threatened by the rise of Nazism, hundreds of thousands of European Jews sought refuge abroad, including in Canada. After a few weeks in Germany, Anna's grandparents returned back to Canada because it was dangerous and the war was happening.
