Tim O'Brien shows a difference in his war story compared to traditional war stories because of the use of masculinity and feminism in the story. The two articles written by Susan Farrell and Pamela Smiley show different types of roles but they are both correct. Susan Farrell shows how men didn't believe women could understand anything about the war simply because they haven't experienced it. Pamela Smiley wrote in her article about the role that the female characters play in the novel.
