A conference room refers to a designated space for crucial meetings or phone calls within an organisation. It's crucial, particularly in this day and age when so many people work remotely or from different places. Teams can gather in these rooms to discuss projects, pick up new skills, or simply strengthen their bonds as a unit. Conference rooms are essential for businesses because they provide quiet areas free from office distractions for client meetings, training sessions, and discussions. These days, they can be digitally accessed on virtual platforms or in real-world locations.

Conference Rooms Types:

Equipped with amenities like video-conferencing technology and projectors

Flexible layouts accommodate different purposes, from lectures to casual discussions

Emphasis on comfort with options like low chairs or plush sofas

Diverse designs include modernist touches like concrete walls

Some spaces offer sofas for relaxed discussions without tables

Certain rooms resemble libraries or living rooms for enhanced comfort

Unique design elements add contemporary flair, inspired by architects like Tadao Ando

When it comes to determining the mood, perception, and productivity of a conference room, colour is a critical component. Natural colors like blues and greens promote tranquility, ideal for productive conversations, while yellow and orange may cause irritability or hunger, making concentration difficult. White, cream, or beige are examples of neutral colours that preserve objectivity while avoiding melancholy or negativity. Accent colours used thoughtfully in furniture or décor items create a harmony between stimulation and focus. Wood stands out as a superb material option that combines visual appeal with useful benefits. Its richness and warmth provide a polished atmosphere, and its resilience and sound-absorbing qualities guarantee better communication and fewer interruptions. Solid hardwood and engineered hardwood are two elegant commercial wood flooring options that impress guests in the lobby and conference areas. Complete acoustic control, achieved with carpeting, acoustic wall and ceiling coverings, and more improves the setting for productive meetings. An indirect-direct pendant fixture evenly distributes light, crucial for setting the mood in meetings. It offers flexibility, with cooler temperatures enhancing focus and warmer ones creating a cosy atmosphere.

Theatre Style Layout: Think of rows of chairs like in a movie theatre. It's good for big crowds when there's not much space. But it's not great for taking notes, and people might feel squished if the chairs are too close.

Cabaret Style Layout: Here, people sit at big round or square tables, usually with about 6 people per table. There's space in front for everyone to see the screen. It's good for working together and team stuff. You can also jot down notes during presentations, but it needs more room than a theatre layout.

Boardroom Layout: Picture a big table where everyone sits together, usually oval or rectangle-shaped. It's best for smaller groups who want to talk things over. But it might not be great for presentations; some people might prefer a 'U' shape layout.

Banquet Layout: This one's for eating! Round tables with 8 to 10 people seated around each. Also called 'dinner/dance layout.'

U Shape Layout (Horseshoe Style): It's like a 'U' where people sit, good for small groups who need to chat and see presentations. Sometimes it's called a 'horseshoe' layout.

Classroom Style Layout: Just like in school! Small tables with two people each, set up in rows. Good for training or meetings where people need to take notes and still see what's going on.

Hollow Square Style: Four tables in a square or rectangle, leaving space in the middle. Great for smaller groups, especially for breaking into smaller discussions.

Auditorium Style: Like a big conference, with a stage for the speaker and chairs in rows facing the stage. Best for big groups where people mainly listen and watch presentations. It's good for sharing knowledge but not for lots of interaction among the audience.

Based on my research, I've found that conference table dimensions typically range from 185x550 cm / 72.8"x216.5" to 190x600 cm / 74.8"x236.2", accommodating 8-12 people comfortably. Chair spacing should be 30-45 cm / 11.8"-17.7" for comfort and accessibility. For presentations, an 85" screen positioned about 340 cm / 133.9" from the mid-table is recommended for optimal viewing. Additionally, leaving 150 - 225 cm / 59.1" - 88.6" of space behind each chair aids circulation, especially in larger meetings. These dimensions ensure a conducive environment for productive discussions.

Iteration 1

This adjustment in the lower ground floor plans aims to address a logistical challenge. By relocating the reception to the entrance forefront, I'm creating a more natural and welcoming entry point. This shift not only resolves the difficulty of adding a reception area but also enhances the overall accessibility and flow of the space. Moreover, the decision to enhance the privacy of the bar section adds an element of exclusivity. Now, as staff members enter, they are greeted by a clear view of the conference hall before transitioning into the bar area, ensuring a more organized and aesthetically pleasing layout. These changes not only solve the initial problem but also contribute to a more functional and enjoyable environment for all users.

Iteration 2

In my development of the lower ground floor plans, I made strategic decisions to enhance the overall functionality and atmosphere of the space. To create a more welcoming entry, I relocated the reception to the entrance, ensuring a warm and inviting first impression. Following this, I situated the conference hall adjacent to the reception area, surrounded by a social space. This arrangement fosters a more interactive and engaging environment for events. To add a touch of privacy and cosiness, I positioned the bar at the back, creating a secluded area for patrons to enjoy. Placing the conference hall after the reception allows for a focused and purposeful flow, emphasizing the space's primary function for events and conferences. These thoughtful adjustments contribute to a well-balanced and purpose-driven layout.

Iteration 3

I opted to sketch the plan on paper to facilitate better comprehension. Paper allows for a clearer depiction of the distances between spaces, making it easier to visualize the layout. Additionally, I chose natural colors like brown, beige, and white to create a calming atmosphere for visitors. These colours aim to evoke a sense of tranquility and comfort, enhancing the overall experience. By illustrating acoustic areas and the desired ambience, I hope to convey the desired vibe to visitors more effectively.

In crafting this design for the conference hall, I've made sure to cover all the essentials – separate restrooms for both men and women, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility. Alongside that, I've included a cleaner room, stockroom, bar, kitchen, and CCTV room to make the space functional and versatile. Yet, as I fine-tune the details, it's apparent that the layout in the back area needs a bit of rearranging for a smoother flow. The focus remains on creating a well-balanced and practical design, with special attention to the centrepiece – the conference room, where all the important discussions and events will take place.

Iteration 1

This diagram illustrates the circulation and pathways in the conference room, showcasing three distinct table setups to accommodate different meeting formats. However, the current layout presents challenges for navigation. Placing the WC section near the kitchen raises concerns about potential odors affecting individuals in adjacent areas, impacting their comfort. Adjustments are necessary to improve convenience and ensure a pleasant experience for everyone in the conference room.

Iteration 2

Realizing the need for three distinct setups, I revised the conference room design, featuring a single conference-style table and essential facilities. However, proximity issues between the WC, bar, and kitchen may lead to odours, needing resolution. The circulation plan for the basement floor emphasizes openness, but I'm considering adjustments to ensure user-friendly movement while maintaining spaciousness.

Iteration 3

I found another way to set up the conference hall, and I like the idea of using the double horseshoe style. It seems like a good fit for better interaction and a nice look during meetings and presentations.

Iterative Design Plan

In this layout, the first column features conceptual sketches, capturing design ideas without precise scaling. The second column outlines circulation patterns for efficient navigation. The third column presents scaled sketches, providing accurate dimensions. These columns offer a holistic view of the design process, from initial concepts to detailed planning.

Iteration 1

I've opted for a horseshoe layout in the basement conference hall, ideal for fostering collaborative discussions among approximately 10 individuals. This configuration cultivates a friendly and intimate ambience, encouraging open communication. Flanking the horseshoe are two social tables, catering to those who prefer independent work. To ensure seamless movement, I've incorporated two passages leading to the bar, dining, and relaxation area. By prioritizing the bar section and omitting redundant facilities like WC and CCTV, already available in the building, I've optimized space, creating a more open and functional environment. This layout enhances flexibility and ease of navigation, promoting comfort and engagement for all occupants.

Iteration 2

Upon reviewing my sketches, I realized that I had unintentionally duplicated the horseshoe layout type. To rectify this, I opted to switch to a round layout design instead. Choosing a round table for the conference room offers numerous benefits, particularly in fostering inclusivity and collaboration among participants. The circular arrangement allows everyone to be gathered together, promoting a friendly and cohesive atmosphere conducive to group work. Additionally, round tables facilitate smoother circulation within the room, making it easier for individuals to move between them. This decision reflects my commitment to creating a conducive and inviting environment for productive discussions and teamwork.

Iteration 3

For the final layout, I opted for an oval boardroom design to maintain a friendly and collaborative atmosphere in the conference room. Oval tables offer a conducive setting for open communication, allowing individuals to express their thoughts and feelings more comfortably. The rounded edges of the table facilitate smoother interactions and foster a sense of inclusivity among participants. This layout choice aligns with my goal of creating a welcoming and productive environment for meaningful discussions and idea exchange.

Additionally, by eliminating redundant amenities like WC, CCTV, and other sections, the circulation in the conference hall is streamlined, resulting in an open and easily navigable space. This thoughtful design aims to enhance the overall experience, encouraging collaboration and interaction within the conference hall.

Iterative Design Lightning Plan

Iteration 1

These represent the final lighting choices for the basement floor, which primarily houses the conference hall. Lighting is of utmost importance in a conference hall where people need to focus on lectures and discussions. To ensure an atmosphere of attentiveness and freshness, I've opted for abundant lighting. The goal is not only to illuminate the space but also to create an environment that feels vibrant and invigorating, promoting a conducive setting for conferences and lectures. The strategic use of light aims to enhance visibility and ensure that every detail is clear, contributing to an engaging and dynamic atmosphere in the conference hall.

Iteration 2

After deciding to relocate the bar to the centre, I made corresponding adjustments to the lighting plan. Since the bar's new position would be a focal point of the space, I revised the lighting scheme to ensure adequate illumination and ambience in this area. This involved repositioning light fixtures and adjusting their intensity to properly highlight the bar and create the desired atmosphere. Additionally, I considered the impact of this change on the overall distribution of light throughout the room, making necessary modifications to maintain a balanced and cohesive lighting design.

Iteration 3

This is the lighting plan for the basement floor, with a focus on the conference room. Recognizing the importance of a well-lit space for gatherings, discussions, and presentations, I opted to increase the lighting elements significantly. In the conference hall itself, I chose recessed spotlights to ensure a well-distributed and efficient lighting scheme. For a central and prominent illumination, I included a ceiling-mounted Luminaire. Shifting to the sitting and resting area, I continued with recessed spotlights due to their affordability and ease of installation, providing ample light for this more refined space. In the bar section, I introduced ceiling lights and plant lights to add a touch of ambience. The aim is to create a basement floor that is not only well-lit but also visually appealing, catering to the diverse activities within each area.

Iterative Design Furniture Plan

This is the furniture plan for my basement floor, where I've divided the space into two main sections. The second section serves as a resting area and bar, designed with a specific layout emphasizing comfort. In the resting area, I've incorporated plush sofas to create a cosy atmosphere, while the bar section features high bar chairs for a more dynamic and social setting. The goal is to provide a versatile and inviting space that caters to both professional events and leisurely gatherings.

Iteration 1

When I attempted to recreate my sketches in AutoCAD, I encountered an issue with the dimensions. The bar I initially drew appeared excessively large, spanning approximately 15 meters, which seemed disproportionate for the available space. Recognizing this discrepancy, I opted to relocate the bar to a more suitable position.

For the furniture plan, I implemented several changes to optimize the layout. Firstly, I introduced a glass wall to separate the reception area from the conference space, maintaining an open feel while delineating distinct zones. To better utilize the space, I added furniture elements like pods and a private phone area strategically to enhance functionality without interrupting the conference area. I then decided to position the conference area at the forefront and the bar area towards the back, allowing visitors to immediately encounter the conference space upon entry. Additionally, I relocated the bar to the centre of the room to create a more balanced layout. To maximize space usage, I designated areas for studying and work at the room's far end, complemented by additional seating throughout. These adjustments aimed to create a cohesive and versatile environment suitable for various activities, ultimately enhancing the usability of the basement floor.

Iteration 2

This final sketch represents the layout of my basement floor, specifically designed for conferences. In this detailed sketch, I've outlined the various sections of the floor, including the reception area, conference space, bar, kitchen, and seating areas. Each section is delineated to ensure a well-organized and functional layout for hosting events and gatherings. With distinct areas for different purposes, this floor plan aims to optimize space utilization while providing a comfortable and efficient environment for conference attendees.

After extensive research, I've chosen a calming colour palette of blues, greens, and neutrals for the conference room, evoking tranquillity and trust akin to nature's serenity. Blues reflect clear skies and water, while greens evoke lush landscapes, ideal for fostering openness, especially in customer-facing spaces. Neutral accents in cream, beige, and light grey maintain warmth without negativity. Wood was selected as the primary material for its inviting ambience and sound-absorbing qualities, ensuring a distraction-free environment during meetings. Lighting considerations led to the choice of an indirect-direct pendant fixture, offering uniform illumination tailored to different meeting atmospheres. This research has clarified flooring, colour, and lighting choices, ensuring alignment with the intended conference room ambience.

Iteration 1

After thorough research, I've opted for a conference room design centred around wooden flooring and a palette of calming colours, including shades of blue, green, beige, white, and grey. This thoughtful selection aims to foster a serene and welcoming atmosphere, conducive to productive discussions and focused engagement. The natural warmth of the wooden flooring coupled with the soothing tones of the chosen colours is anticipated to instil a sense of tranquillity, promoting a conducive environment for collaboration and idea exchange during meetings and conferences.

Final MoodBoard

In this updated mood board, I've curated a selection of elements that exude an even greater sense of tranquillity and serenity, surpassing the previous design. Inspired by the desire to create a space that envelops clients in a soothing embrace from the moment they enter, I've incorporated softer hues, gentle textures, and natural materials. Shades of soft blue and muted green dominate the colour palette, evoking a sense of peace and harmony. The addition of plush fabrics, such as velvet and linen, invites tactile comfort, while touches of wood and wicker infuse the space with warmth and organic charm. Every detail has been carefully chosen to cultivate a calming ambience, ensuring that clients feel instantly at ease upon stepping into the space.

Early Ideas

Iteration 1

This is my early design concept for the basement floor, where I've incorporated several key features to enhance its functionality and appeal. I've included a bar/kitchen area to cater to refreshment needs, a spacious seating room adorned with abundant furniture to accommodate various activities, and a prominently positioned conference room as the focal point. Additionally, there's a dedicated reception area to welcome guests and manage inquiries efficiently. This layout aims to optimize the space for diverse uses while maintaining a cohesive and inviting atmosphere.

Iteration 2

To better visualize the space and understand its proportions, I opted to construct a model of the area. Keeping it simple, I built a scaled-down representation using basic materials. To enhance my perception of scale, I included miniature figures within the model to simulate the presence of people. By incorporating these figures, I gained a clearer understanding of how individuals would interact within the space and how furniture placement would affect circulation and usability. This approach provided invaluable insights into the spatial dynamics of the area, enabling me to make informed decisions regarding layout and design.

Iteration 3

In this iteration, I made a significant change by adding a welcoming area for guests and visitors, replacing the previous reception space. I realized that transforming this area into a welcoming space would enhance the overall experience for customers, making them feel happier and more comfortable. Now, anyone waiting can enjoy a pleasant atmosphere while anticipating their appointment. Seeing the final result filled me with joy and excitement, as it was challenging to translate my ideas into reality. Moving forward, I'm eager to continue refining my concepts and bringing them to life.

In this updated zonal and adjacency plan, I've made several revisions to prioritize a welcoming and cosy atmosphere for visitors as they descend the stairs. The reception area has been strategically relocated between the stairs and the entrance, creating an immediate sense of warmth and hospitality. Additionally, I've incorporated a designated seating area for customers, inviting them to relax and unwind upon arrival. The overarching goal remains to cultivate a comfortable environment conducive to relaxation, with specific zones designated for breaks and moments of tranquillity. Every aspect of the plan has been meticulously considered to promote a sense of peace and serenity, from the optimized functionality of the layout to the strategic positioning of key spaces like the conference hall near essential amenities. Emphasis has been placed on acoustic privacy to ensure a quiet and focused environment, while the inclusion of natural plants adds a touch of vitality and freshness to the space. This thoughtful approach aims to create an efficient and inviting lower ground floor that caters to the needs of all users, balancing practicality with an ambiance to foster a harmonious atmosphere throughout.

When I was deciding on the materials for my research space, I wanted to make sure every choice reflected the kind of atmosphere I wanted to create. I did some research to understand what would work best. That's why I opted for wooden flooring—it's a classic choice that brings a touch of elegance to any room. Plus, it's versatile, meaning it can match different styles and designs. But it's not just about looks. Wooden flooring also adds warmth to the space, making it feel more inviting. And it's practical too. Because my research space is likely to see a lot of foot traffic, I needed something durable that could handle it. Wooden flooring fits the bill perfectly. Another reason I chose it is because of its acoustic properties. I want my space to be conducive to discussions and collaboration, and wooden flooring helps with that by reducing noise and echoes. To complement the wooden flooring, I decided on a color scheme that would enhance the calming vibe I was aiming for. I went for neutral colors like grey, beige, and white, with a splash of green to add a bit of freshness. Lastly, I knew that comfort was important, especially for long hours spent in the space. That's why I included fitted carpeting. Not only does it feel great underfoot, but it also helps with sound absorption, making it easier to focus during meetings or presentations. Overall, I'm confident that the materials I've chosen will help create a welcoming and productive environment for both myself and anyone else who uses the space.

The idea behind my logo stemmed from my interests and passion for interior design. To kickstart my brand development journey, I carefully selected words that epitomized my style and approach: creative, neutral colours, energetic, and organic forms. These descriptors encapsulate my design philosophy, which blends creativity with a focus on natural elements and vibrant energy. Drawing inspiration from these words, I embarked on sketching logo patterns to visually represent these qualities. Each element of the pattern reflects the harmonious blend of creativity, earthy tones, dynamic energy, and organic shapes, serving as a visual embodiment of my unique design style in the interior design category. To refine my logo idea further, I leveraged my creativity to digitize and experiment with the selected patterns. After meticulous refinement, I chose two logo patterns, number two and number six, which I digitized using design software to ensure they effectively represent my brand in the interior design landscape.

This is my initial logo design, created using software. While it aligns with the descriptors I selected, I found the color choice—light pink—to be lacking in vibrancy and energy. Additionally, the design felt overly simplistic, lacking the unique flair I aimed to capture. Moreover, upon reflection, I realized that the design resembled others too closely, diminishing its distinctiveness. As a result, I decided to explore alternative designs to better reflect my brand's identity and stand out in the competitive landscape.

This is the final version of my logo, which I carefully designed to capture the spirit of my brand. It embodies the descriptors I chose with precision, radiating style, originality, and simplicity. The design embodies my style with its timeless versatility and minimalist aesthetic, characterised by clean lines. I think it does a good job of conveying the essence of my brand and will make an impact on my audience.
