In the middle of questioning Martha Corey, Giles Corey interrupts. He interrupted to defend his wife. Since Giles Corey interrupted questioning, he was dragged out of the room and off stage by Marshal Herrick. They were accompanied by Judge Hathorne, Governor Danforth, Reverend Parris, Reverend Hale, Francis Nurse, and Ezekiel Cheever. There was then a brief discussion about if the accusers' claims argued the truth. Mary Warren admitted that she and the other girls in the group were faking the whole time. Governor Danforth was not convinced because the evidence of witchcraft he has seen in the court in Salam, Massachusetts. Later on John Proctor and Martha Corey were arrested. Also Elizabeth Procter tried to protect John Procter's reputation but the judge didn't believe her during questioning. Reverend Hale quit the court because he was disguised about the display of irrationality. People are getting blamed for all kinds of things. Witchcraft is one of the main reasons. Tituba gets blamed a lot and I think that is because of stereotyping. An example is how Abigail Williams uses Tituba as a scapegoat in act one of "The Crucible". This also causes it to spread around a town called Salam in Massachusetts claiming that one another are witches or participated in witchcraft. Many people were wiped and/or hanged after being blamed for participating in witchcraft or being a witch. Abigail Williams also used Tituba as a scapegoat because she was a black slave from Barbados and was thought very little of. This was thought to be believable because women held no social rank in the town of Salam, Massachusetts.
