Dual use can also be seen in many different technologies. One example is nuclear energy and what it is harnessed to do, but another example is the internet. This is a pretty broad subject, but I don't think I have seen dual use applied to it. The internet can do many good things, by bringing people together and spreading the word about important causes. However it can also be used to facilitate propaganda or to influence elections, make illegal transactions, and bring harm to people in other inderect ways. The intended uses of the internet are only the tip of the iceberg.

The intent of stopping the spread of nuclear weapons after the Trinity test is simple, but their use after that point is inevitable in my opinion. Even Oppenheimer touches on this when he says the laws on nuclear weapons should have been put in place 20 years ago. The scientists kept working hard even after V-E day, showing that they were kind of taken over by the fullfillment of succeeding at their level of work. I imagine something similar had come over the Nazi Engineers that we discussed in class. This kind of lust for power could just as easily taken over scientists from another country at a later date if the development stopped at Trinity. In a way I feel like the destruction that the world saw at the end of WWII in a way can have an effect of limiting the use of the bomb, but not in the way the designers intended, as they hadn't imagined the day ever coming until it was too late.

What concerns me most about nuclear technology in today's world is the development of nuclear weapons. I am pro nuclear power, because I feel the risks involved are outweighed by the benefits. With thousands of nuclear warheads just chillin all over the world, it seems to be a matter of time before a war calls for their use. Hopefully the world doesn't go for an all out nuclear anhillation, but you never know.
