The concept of an endless inventory involves starting a relationship that goes beyond just music. It also involves investing time to get to know the artist so much that you would pretty much know what his next move will be (musically). You look into all of their work and not just their recent album of single. It may even go as far as having it seem like you know that artist personally just because you can identify with some of their lyrics. After listening to an artist for a long time, you realize that what they speak about is something you can relate to and you just want to keep on listening to see what they say next. Artists usually have a message in their songs and they end up expressing what they believe or how they feel. Somehow the artists has caught your attention and then you just wait for the next song or album because history tends to repeat itself. I understand and agree with this concept to a certain extent because I hold a relationship with some artists including Kendrick Lamar. The vertical consumption of things allow you to view a point (artist in this case) and view their whole spectrum or work/ideas. But you don't do this with every artist you encounter because they don't relate to you the same way. I feel like this endless inventory concept is what puts you into the "real fan" category because when you're that invested with an artist then that's when you start to collect their music named: endless inventory. Like I said, I agree with the idea that this is important because people who have this relationship with an artist is the main core of their fan base.

This explains how looking into an artist and developing this relationship takes more than one listen or in other words time. Throughout time if you discover more about the artist that you find interesting, then the relationship starts to form itself.

This quote helps me understand his concept more because it relates it to stocks. A share is a small ownership of a company so when you say a listener is a shareholder in the music they hear than it means they own or a part of it to a certain extent.

In his book, he talks about him having content that meant something to him because of what he had went through. After that, his music had less "middle" because he signed to a certain label. However when he was coming up there was mystery in his music and that is the mystery that would draw people to create a relationship with him.

I chose Kendrick Lamar because he is the artist who I would say I have a relationship with. Like Marc he had a story coming up the only difference here is that Kendrick is still (in my eyes) revealing more of his story today even after he became big. His albums still carry content about his beliefs and what he thinks is right. Throughout his career he has put out music that people can relate to not because that's his goal so that more people listen to but because he genuinely feels that way and it just so happens to be relate-able to a lot of people.
