In the early 2000's, technology in the classroom was considered a negative thing. Phones were a distraction, computers were for the home, and the most exposure students got in school was typing class or a computer lab. Now, technology is being seen as a learning tool, and schools with more technology are seen as more prestigious. As time goes on, universities are using technology more in order to help both students and staff in different ways.

A team of graduate assistances at Georgia Tech University successfully created an artificial intelligence to serve as a T.A (Warner, 2017). Though at this point just a minimum "question answering tool," this is an indication how technology is evolving. Will it eventually completely replace teachers? That remains to be seen.

Because of this, these generations expect technology and the internet to be part of their everyday lives, including their schooling. It will continue to benefit the higher education landscape and change the way educators and administrations do every day tasks. It will continue to be used as a tool for students and educators to use to aid and facilitate learning.

Technology is a tool and resource for the advancement of student learning. According to the NASPA competency, educators should not only use the technology available to them, but embrace it and be able to adapt to the changing technological landscape. It's important as educators or administrators to understand the types of technology available so that we can better understand and assist the student body. Professional development should include digital learning workshops and other forms of training.
