My goal for this project is to work with different people and see how different leadership skills can come together to create a nice performance. Another goal is to challenge myself with learning new music. By working in a group, we are in charge of our own sound and our own improvement. We learn our new songs ourselves then see it all come together. This project will also teach us new skills and allow us to really listen to other parts.. since we have to count together and create one sound together. We learn each others parts and help each other improve and fix mistakes. The other members can help me if I have an issue within a piece and vise versa. At the end of the project, we will all have improved in one way or another. Whether its improving in leadership skills, reading music, hearing others, counting, or overall playing your instrument better.

For the duration of this project, a goal of mine was to learn how to be patient with working with other people in a group. In my learning abilities, I work better alone, but I wanted to be able to see how other people learn as well. Another goal was to try to teach myself how to play a piece without the help of a teacher, so to basically guide myself. Lastly, I wanted to progress as a beginner musician and having the experience of playing in a small chamber group with varying skill levels.

This project will help me and my group preform better when cite reading since we had to learn the music as we went. Another goal that I hope to reach during this project is to just improve my skill on the violin
overall. This project will also teach me new skills through listening to others to stay together and play in the right key

At the beginning of the project, I was able to sight read the picked pieces decently well, disregarding intonation and dynamics. Through the next week, my group and I were able to play our pieces with some intonation and dynamics but we were still working on being able to stay together. The next two weeks, the main problem we had was counting at the same tempo. Using the metronome we were able to fix that decently and continued working on it to make it performance ready. The last couple weeks before the performance, we were able to do the dynamics and intonations well, just the counting needed to be worked on. The rehearsal the day before the performance went smoothly, as we were able to stay together and play our music to the best of our ability.

One of my main goals for this project is to improve my skills and technique on the cello. I've been playing the cello for almost two years now mostly for fun and on my own time. I saw this project as the perfect opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and learn more about the role of the cello in an ensemble. I hope to improve my ability to read music in bass clef. I feel like being able to read more clefs than just your own is a useful skill to have. I also hope to improve overall as a musician. Chamber groups demand a higher level of attention than a large ensemble. This means you have to really focus on your intonation, dynamics, and keeping a steady tempo. Hopefully I can apply the things I learn from this to regular class

Following some debate about which pieces to play, we settled on what to play and began practicing. At first, we were admittedly not very productive. We certainly did some work but not as much as we could’ve done. Determined not to make the same mistakes as last year, I began practicing all of our pieces every day once we got them. After about a week or two, I was comfortable with reading bass clef again and with all of the pieces. There was still much to do but I was at least able to play through them all. As we neared spring break, we started to get more serious and actually worked together to fix various issues. One of our pieces was not coming together no matter how hard we tried so we were forced to make a last minute swap. The last few days before spring break we really worked hard and ironed out most of our major problems. Although we had a slow start, we really pulled it together towards the end.

I learned from the mistakes I made last year and actually practiced and communicated with my group to work out issues. I definitely feel like i grew not only as a cellist, but also as a musician. Last year after this project, i regretted my decision of playing the cello. This year, however, I'm glad that i did it. It was a great opportunity to grow as a musician and i would definitely do it again if the opportunity presented itself

Sometimes in class I have trouble with keeping the tempo and not slowing down. I feel that playing in a smaller group will help me with this. The problem that I would like to work on independently is rhythms. I feel that if I work on my own to count and play those rhythms that give me trouble then I will be better in class.

Though it was challenging, I learned many things about working as a group on a couple pieces of music. The performance went well for the most part, even though our nerves sometimes got the best of us. As a group, I am quite proud of how my other members were able to pull through this and how I made closer friends in my class.

In the beginning, we all had input on which pieces to play and how we wanted to sound overall. Then we got to work and started focusing on discovering how each piece will come together. I was personally most excited about playing Star Wars and Reflection... even though we later decided to cut Reflection and replace it with another piece. In the beginning of the project it was hard to stay together and actually make our way through the pieces, but it quickly became easier to do so... and soon we were able to play each piece all the way through.

Most of the pieces are okay and getting better. In Star Wars we really need to work on staying together during the last measure. Our classical piece is actually really good but we do need work on playing e flats and not e natural. I think that with Spartacus if we run trough it a couple more times then we can get it really good. Finally, with Mantras, we need to work on the slow part starting at about 52. We all need to count because the time signature changes from 2/4 to 3/4 and 4/4 a lot.

One of our pieces named Reflection has been causing us some problems with staying together which is making it hard to learn the piece. After discussing this problem we have come to the conclusion that we needed to switch Reflection for Spartacus. After dealing with this problem we were able to get the pieces solid all the way through.
