Quote

"Hawley, who had sought the position in the hope of restoring the Gardner to its turn-of-the-century brilliance, and who had neither the inclination nor the ability to solve crimes, she soon added the most high-profile responsibility to the long list of duties her job entitled" (80). This section of the book finally led to the part that I was most excited to read; the investigation of the missing artwork. As I have said before I am really interested in criminal investigations and behind the scenes of the FBI. This book does a pretty good job of capturing the FBI's work along with the staff at the museum. It shows how they were able to put their minds and resources together to attempt to find the burglars. I hope that one day I get the chance to work on a case as interesting as this one, with the multitude of people attached to the stolen art work. The reason I chose this quote was because Anne Hawley was the Gardner Museum directer while the thieft went on. She really stepped up and engrossed herself in the case. She had no prior experience with catching criminals but teamed up with the FBI in hopes to catch the thief. She is a big inspiration especially being a girl in a male dominant field. I was really impressed with her work and I was really hoping she would be the one to find the thief.
