In the book, "Every Song Ever" by Ben Ratliff, explains how music uses repetition to shape the song as the artist wants it to be. Ratliff explains how it is not a copy of a tone repeating. It's a tone that continues to change or evolve as it continues through the song. I agree with Ratliff's arguments about how repetition is used as a distinguish part of the song and how it must change in order for it work effectively. I agree because without repetition there's not much for the audience to look for or to expect. "Ain't it Funky Now" by James Brown is a good example of repetition because it allows James Brown to improvise and explore the song as a creative musician. Another example that isn't part of Ratliff's playlist is Bill Withers "Ain't No Sunshine", where he also gets the freedom to improvise at certain parts and explore the repetition of the song. They both exemplify the musical concept by showing how the artist can use repetition as a benefit or tool to being creative with the song and exploring its possibilities.
