Plot

The Boy In The Striped Pajamas is a Movie based off the book by John Boyne. It is set in Nazi Germany during World War Two. It tells the tale of a young boy named Bruno, who befriends a young boy named Shmuel. Bruno plays with this boy everyday, he thinks Shmuel lives on a farm, but without knowing he is living on a Concentration Camp set up by Adolf Hitler. The film shows how the young boys become so close that Bruno wants to go into the 'farm' and play with Shmuel. Shmuel steals bruno some clothes that match his, and a hat to cover his hair, Bruno then digs under the barbed wired fence that has been separating them and climbs under. They then get pulled into a room, in which the boys think they're having a shower, without knowing that it is a Gas Chamber.

The effect this movie has on the viewer is a powerful and emotional one. It shows how two young boys from very different backgrounds become friends in the most unlikely of situations. It shows how naive and innocent children can be, as Bruno thinks that his friend Shmuel lives in a farm, when in reality he lives in a Nazi concentration camp. The film can be seen as heartwarming as well as heartbreaking as the boys figure out way to play together, although it ends in tragedy.

The characters reaction to the realization of where the boys are is upsetting, as Bruno's mother and sister are outside the gates crying when they see his clothes and the hole under the fence. His fathers reaction is almost similar as he is running through the camp trying to find out where his son has gone.
