The Exchequer or informally known as the treasury is responsible for public spending. This means that they fund the public services and decide how much they fund each public service. The first lord of the treasury is Theresa May currently, this means she is he formal head of the treasury. Liz Truss oversees Spending reviews and strategic planning, in-year spending control, public sector pay and pensions, annually managed expenditure and welfare reform, efficiency and value for money in public service, capital investment. If the Exchequer were to be discontinued the public services would lose all funding and ultimately collapse. The exchequer is also her majesty's.

The Regional Government was the fourth level of government in the UK and has only recently been abolished due to the Spending Review in March 2010. The Regional Government was costing too much to fund and therefore the Spending Review decided to pass the role of Regional Government onto Local Authorities to save money. The Regional Government used to be the voice of the 8 different regions of England, these are: the East of England Regional Assembly, East Midlands Regional Assembly, North East Assembly, North West Regional Assembly, South East England Regional Assembly, South West Regional Assembly, West Midlands Regional Assembly and Yorkshire and Humber Assembly. The main roles the Regional Government used to carry out are Regional Housing, Regional Planning, Policy Development and Regional Transport.

Throughout the country their are local authorities, these come in the form of councils or more specifically county councils responsible for services such as education, waste management and strategic planning within a county , with several non-metropolitan district councils responsible for services such as housing, waste collection and local. Local councils are chosen in separate elections. Local authorities divide the treasuries fund even further to different constabularies. Local authorities now take on the roles of the regional government as it was discontinued in 2010 due to it costing to much to upkeep. Local authorities are the 5th stage of the levels of government in the UK. Local authorities also fund facilities such as care homes and social service centres.

European Parliament (RD)

The European Parliament (EP) is the highest level of government in the UK and overlooks the 4 levels below which divide the jobs that the European Parliament would have to do but are better suited for the smaller levels of government, this is very good because it divides the roles to other governments so the EP can concentrate on more important matters. The headquarters for the European Parliament is based in Brussels, Belgium and has 751 members which are elected from 28 different states. The president of the European Parliament is Antonio Tajani who is from Rome, Italy and has been president since January 2017. Elections for the 751 members from the 28 different states are held every 5 years, this is good because it gives other candidates a chance to represent their state but if the people want that person as their member then they can vote for them again. The European Parliament was established to manage the economic co – operation, this is known as the single market. The voting age is 18 except in Austria where it is 16, I think the voting age should be 18 because it is when we can do most things in life by ourselves and when we are seen as an adult. The UK voted to leave the European Union (EU) on 23rd June 2016, this is commonly known as Brexit. I don’t know what I would have chosen if I was old enough to vote because I didn’t understand the effects of whether we left or remained. I think it is important that we learn and understand about the government so next time people who didn’t understand like me can have an opinion for the next vote. However, now that we have decided to leave the EU it is important that we get the best deal possible for the UK, the people living in the UK and British people living in Europe. If we don’t get the best deal we can then the UK could suffer economically and effect the trade industry.

Devolved parliament (EP)

A devolved parliament is a proposed institution that would give seperated decision- making powers to representatives for voters in England. It would overall move the power down the scale of authority to smaller local authorities. Devolution in the u.k created a national parliament in Scotland, a national assembly in Northern Ireland and a national assembly in Wales. Devolved powers are decisions that parliament controlled in the past, but are now taken by the seperated bodies. This could include matters like education or health. Reserved powers including uk defence and foreign policy remain with parliament in Westminster. The Scottish parliament and the National assembly for wales took responsibility for their devolved powers on 1 July 1999, the Northern Ireland assembly followed 2 December 1999. The Northern Ireland assembly was suspended at midnight on 14 October 2002. Power was restored on May 2007.

The Central government is based in the capital of England, London, at the palace of Westminster. The leader is Theresa May. The central government control the whole of the UK. They are also accountable for making agreements with other nations to be a better place. For example in our current situation people like Theresa May will be negotiating a smooth exit out of the EU. The central government will get helped by professionals but they are the ones who make the final decision. Also they try to protect the nation.
The central government is made up of three things: The monarch, The house of commons and the house of lords. In the house of commons there are 650 seats and your party has to have over half (326) to get full power and form a single government. The current situation is a joint coalition between the conservatives and the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). The houses are responsible for changing laws. This goes through to the queen and the monarch has to sign to say it is approved.

The home office are countering terrorism and trying to keep the UK safe from threats. Amber Rudd is trying to introduce things such as the law if you are caught watching terrorist actions you could get 15 years in prison. That is one the ways she is trying to stop terrorism from increasing. There has been a 3 day counter terrorism drill that has been carried out to test how good the system is. The police are helping each other out in different cities to help counter terrorism. This all came from a complaint from Lee Rigby's mother she said there is a lack of support countering terrorism.
